Unhappy Bosch LH FI

Virtually every FI component on my car has failed:

LH ECU - sadly I got a second hand unit rather than a rebuilt one, so it's going to fail again one day
MAF - Definitely well past it's best, I'm about to find out how bad when I swap it out
Fuel Pump - OK I know these are service items
Injectors - Not failed, but I'm sure they need cleaning

The only parts left are the pressure regulator and dampeners. Am I being unrealistic expecting it to last longer than it has?

Your just getting discouraged. Relax, and take a step back.

LH-brain, these shouldn't fail. IMHO Bosch screwed up. Sorry.

MAF, these get out of spec after so many thousand miles anyways. Thats the way it goes. The more bugs, or oil it eats, the shorter it lasts.

Fuel pump- these all wear out.

Injectors, why would they need cleaning? Get some tanks of fuel cleaner through the car, if it improves they needed the cleaning. I'm betting with your fuel filter, and the detergents in modern fuel, they're just fine. That is unless your car has sat for years.

The regulators and dampaners can fail. They have rubber diaframs in them, but it's more time related than anything else.

However, your 165,000 miles down the road, w/ 17 years on the clock. The rubber bits and peices required to make the parts work are getting old. The MAF has gone through countless heat cycles. Things don't last for forever.

Bosch set the standard, and the rest of the world does the same. MAFs get out of spec, fuel pumps wear out, injectors get gumed up. That is a fact of life. The one problem with the system is the LH-brain.

However, on comparason, the only componet I've had to replace on my cars FI system is the O2 sensor, and the vacuum lines. Everything else from the factory seems to be happly blasting down the road.

All though to be fair, I did have to work on the AFM after a PO "worked" on it.
