Default b- pillar speakers

Does anyone know how much room depth wise there is in the B pillar. I am looking at 6" speakers that are 3+" deep.

It's a fit-n-try. The cavity is deep, but the wheel well significantly intrudes, leaving a very small space. I was unable to fit a Rockford Fosgate midbass driver ... one of the flattest shallowest drivers available, because the magnet though shallow, is wide. So, deep no prob as long as the magnet is not wide. I ended up with MB Quarts.

You can always build up mounting depth with some additional rings...

I finally nabbed a set of MBQ 316's (ebay), and I can't wait to install them in the back.

I found these were very hard to find.

Cheers,
Mike

Hello Dan,

I have had little trouble finding the 210's for the front doors, however most of those sources did not carry the 316's, or were "currently unavailable".

When I did find the 316's they were $4-500.

I scooped my new set of 316's on ebay for $200 with a "Buy It Now".

BTW, when looking for MBQ 210's make sure you shop around. The "same series 210's" vary from $133-260.

Best price right now for MB Quart PREMIUM PSD 210's is $139 at sounddomain.com

Cheers,
Mike

Watercooler

You show 3 speakers in your pic, are the speakers with "ears" the 316's and the larger ones 210's?

Are you using a 2 channel amp?

I have the sound proofing installed and now waiting for the alpine head unit to come in. Iam putting the amp in the spare tire well on a platform I made.

Tkanks

Hi Dan,

The MB Quart PSD316 PREMIUM Component package, shown again here...

....is a complete package. From what I have read, it is an excellent choice for replacment of the factory rear speakers. I have a 1991 rear interior so I have 6 rear speakers.

It includes:

PTD 25 1" (25mm) PREMIUM Series Neo Tweeter
PMD 100 Midrange 4" (100mm) Premium Midrange Driver
PWD 160 Woofer 6.5" (160mm) PWD Midrange Driver
PXD 316 Xover MUSiCOMP Crossover for the PSD 316
MOUNT: 25NX SURFACE Rings Surface Mounting Ring for 25NX Tweeters
MOUNT: 25NX ANGLE Rings Angle Mounting Ring for 25NX Tweeters
MOUNT: 25NX FLUSH Rings Flush Mounting Ring for 25NX Tweeters
QM 160.79 MS EINBAU Mounting Kit Flush Rings & Grilles for 160TX-3
QM 100.79 MS EINBAU Mounting Kit Flush Rings & Grilles for 100TX-3
QM 100.78 AUFBAU Mounting Kit Raised mounting ring (.47") for 100.03KX
QM 160.78 AUFBAU Mounting Kit Raised mounting ring (.47") for 160.03KX

Specifications:

Impedance: 4 Ohms
Frequency Response: 38-32k
Sensitivity: 86 dB
Power Range: 60-130 watts
Crossover Frequencies: 350/2500Hz

The MB Quart PSD210 PREMIUM Component package shown here....

....is also a complete package, and a commonly used set for door replacement speakers. The 4 inch units have one of the lowest depths of good speakers (Important for mounting as there is not much clearance in the doors).

It includes:

PTD 25 1" (25mm) PREMIUM Series Neo Tweeter
PWD 100 4" (100mm) PWD Midrange Driver
PXD 210 MUSiCOMP Crossover for PSD210
MOUNT: 25NX SURFACE Rings Surface Mounting Ring for 25NX Tweeters
MOUNT: 25NX ANGLE Rings Angle Mounting Ring for 25NX Tweeters
MOUNT: 25NX FLUSH Rings Flush Mounting Ring for 25NX Tweeters
QM 100.79 MS EINBAU Mounting Kit Flush Rings & Grilles for 100TX-3
QM 100.78 AUFBAU Mounting Kit Raised mounting ring (.47") for 100.03KX

Specifications:

Impedance: 4 Ohms
Frequency Response: 59-32k
Sensitivity: 84.5 dB
Power Range: 30-80 watts
Crossover Frequency: 2500Hz

With both sets (MBQ 210's for the doors, and 316's for the rear) there are 6 speakers, 4 tweeters, and 4 crossovers, so there is a lot of gear to squeeze into the car.

I have not purchased an amp as of yet as I am looking for one that I can mount in the factory location (smallest I can find). I personally don't want to use my spare wheel well, but many others have.

If I can't find a good amp that is small enough I will be using a spare amp cover that I purchased. I will use it for a mold to make a larger fiberglass cover for the amp. If all else fails, I will be mounting an enclosed amp in the vertical position in the back on the pass side just like the factory car phone brain (see PET).

What Alpine head did you get?

Cheers,
Mike

That would be a Alpine CDA-9831 unit with variable color button illumination

A local audio shop will be doing the installation ( with my input ). they are reluctant to go with the Quarts speakers ( because they don't sell them )
but I have final say.

The installation will be in 2 steps, 1st install speakers, cables and wire,
then when amp comes in they'll install that.

BTW I researched the small amp possibility but was not able to find any thing that would fit in stock location.

Thanks

dan z
