Default Attaching upper door trim clips

I'm installing new upper window seal, and found it's much easier to locate seal in channel with the upper door interior trim piece removed.

The piece has seen spring clips locating in slots in the door frame. 4 came out fine but 3 stayed in the door (it felt like they had detached from the trim piece some time ago). What kind of adhesive be recommended for firmly attaching the clips back to the trim (there was a sticky black adhesive around the clips left in the door)?

Photos show the position of one of the missing clips (you can see circles of black adhesive originally holding the clip there), and the same position with the missing clip sitting in position. The trim piece seems to locate fine with just 4 clips, but always nice to do things properly while it's off the car.

Thanks adhesive experts!

Thanks Donald. What's PL?

Edit: Found that Loctite product — not sure it's available in UK where I am, but they do a good epoxy product.

I used a butane pencil torch to heat the metal clip and then pressed it back into the plastic trim piece. The heated metal of the clip melted the clip back into the plastic. Still going strong after 5 years.

That’s an elegant idea, thanks.

Found a bottle of Gorilla Glue in the house, and that seems to have done a good job fixing two of the clips. Have final one to attach so may try your approach as it’s such an interesting idea.

The original pics don't look like adhesive - they look like plastic nubs which were melted over the rim of the holes to secure the clip?

If that's the case - I'd go with the heat option,. and maybe a plastic welding kit to add a bit more material on top.

Yes they must have used heat at the factory and formed those plastic rivets.

In the end I wasn't sure how well that would work with the old nubs in place, so I used Gorilla Glue and the clips feel very firmly attached. I'm hoping that trim piece won't need to come off again so if they hold up on the install that will be fine.
