I ended up doing a DIY carpet replacement on the Azurite blue GTS I just refurbed. Took 6 yards of light gray sliverknit to replace _everything_ in the car, 54" wide. $42 per yard at Global Upholstery in Santa Ana, CA. Used all the old pieces as templates for the new. Hardest part is re-doing the floor carpet pieces on the 90-95 cars due to the molded foam, I had hand-seamrip all the old binding off and then slice off the foam backing with an electric knife ($20 black and decker electric turkey carver to the rescue) and take them to a local upholstery guy to sew the bindings on. And then re-glue the foams back on. He also replicated all the pieces that needed sewing (dead pedal, e-brake cover, driver's seatbelt anchor cover, amplifier cover). All in his part was $380 plus $300 in materials and glue.

Original stuff, hopelessly dirty. Did not respond well (enough) to cleaning.

Bugs' handiwork:

Endless amounts of gluing (Weldwood HHR):

Final result, installed:

Just sent a pricing request for a full Champagne set, and the different material quality options.

These are the prices I was quoted from World Upholstery. It may give you some idea.

Full Cork Silverknit carpet set for 1979 with manual seats = $915
4 piece seat skins for front. Cork Vinyl = 990 Cork Leather = $1300
They only have the rear seats in Cork Leather $1010

These were reasonably cheaper than Lakewell Upholstery out of Belgium, especially considering Euro conversion, fees and shipping.

Hope these prices give you some reference.

I think Classic 9 will be back. I just did a bit of business with them last week...raw material procurement only, no labor. The company was just sold, has/had backlog, had an old clunky website, had a few problem projects. The optimist in me thinks they are catching up, re-evaluating services/ costs to be offered, building a new web portal. That's what anyone who buys a business should do. Yea it would be ideal to do all of this seamlessly with no interruption is service but that is not an option for every business.

I would not count them out yet.

Post just popped up in a 944 FB group showing parts recently refinished by Classic 9. Parts were shipped out about 4 weeks ago and recently arrived completed.

They told me they were not accepting new orders until they catchup with their current backlog.
I am not aware they have been sold again.

I bought two hood pads from Classic 9 around Christmas last year and received the items quickly, so the ownership change and backlog must have happened in the past 6 months

Good grief. There's a company called LSeat that sells leather skins for our seats. They don't really have a reputation here, but they're so much less expensive that I think they're worth a try.

Do you know if they have carpet sets? That Cork Sliverknit was a bit hard to find. I will look at LSeat. I have one of my other 928's that needs new bolsters. I may get a new set for that car, as well. Thanks for the tip.
