Any guess to whats going on here, just about to replace the timing belt... Car runs, guessing somehow the orange plastic band with the timing marks has been taken off and put back on? Also check the third photo, shows the band is also been put on backwards ( note where 45 deg is) Painted mark at 45 deg btdc, by previous belt change And this is the crank pulley at 45 deg btdc This third photo i have rotated the crank to get to the markings.... Notice anything?
Sure do, photo two, the timing marks on the balancer are 180 degrees out from tdc.... They are on the bottom of the pulley in that shot. With the balancer keyed there is no way that could happen. So interested to see what has been done here. Will install the flywheel lock later today and take it off
OK lets start over
when whomever put that crank damper back on they installed it back wards.
NOTE since the cams were already lined up it didnt matter that the damper went on backwards as the engine was properly timed.
That said put the engine at TDC with the cams lined up .
You could also remove the #1 plug, put a piece of hanger wire in through the plug hole and rest it on the piston and verify that the piston is at TDC.
NOTE #1 is first plug on the passenger side.
Remove the crank bolt after installing the flywheel lock.
turn the damper over so you can read the number as you face the engine.
That said if the crank damper wont line up then the damper may have separated from the hub and turned
NOTE the crank will be at TDC when the woodruff keyway is pointing at the 4 O clock position
