MAF question
I'm starting to get close to being able to fire up my 86.5 for the first time in 10 years. I've been trying to make sure everything that will be difficult to do after the intake runners are on is correct before I put them on. I got around to bench testing my MAF this evening. I measured 4 ohms between pins 3 & 5 and measured 138 ohms between pins 3 & 6. I think I'm going to go ahead and adjust the co pot to see if I can get it to 386 ohms for a baseline.
My question is should the car have even run worth a crap with the MAF so far off? I don't recall any running issues when I drove it home after I bought it. I recall taking it very easy getting home since I had no maintenance history on the car. This was 10 years ago, but I would remember if it had not idled or died on the way home. Let me know what you think.
Thanks,
-Ethan

Adjust it close to the correct resistance,
start it up and see how it runs.

Thanks Greg. I'm going to give that a shot. It's about time I got this thing running. I need to put the NOS transaxle and fuel lines I got from you to work.

Overland Park here with an early '86; live about a mile from State Line Rd. KC Porsche club meets at Pegah's on 87th just west of 69 highway on Saturdays for breakfast and we have cars and coffee 1st and 3rd Saturdays at the auto museum (can't think of the street...I think 119th...off of there). Will be awesome to have another '86 in the pack. We are a pretty decent sized chapter but only have 4 or 5 928s...welcome to come by even if yours isn't running...great group, very friendly.
If the MAF is original it almost certainly needs to be replaced; they are essentially consumable items. Roger at 928's R Us has them and you can get them also from injection labs (no affiliation). Mine came with original MAF when I got it back in 2010 and the MAF was toast; replacing it made a world of difference.
Also if you haven't already; ground straps for battery and engine and a new O2 sensor (Bosch); Roger stocks them.

Thanks 928noobie. I'll have to check that out. The MAF is most likely original or a NOS replacement as it still had the factory plug in it blocking of the co pot. I was able to adjust it to 386 ohms which is what I've read is a good starting point. I'll exchange it if I run into issues after I get it running.
