Default 928 Stereo systems

What I have now just doesnt cut it. Anyone out there have any suggestions for a good system? I am not running any amps now just a Blau head unit with 40 watts and 8 speakers.

It is not a bad set up but it has no bass at all. It tends to get real muddy when I crank it up. Any suggestions?

I have a Pioneer DEH-225

READ: crap!

Stereo in my car. I bought an original Blaupunkt Monterey from someone on here, and tried to re-solder red LED's in place of its light bulbs. It didn't work- the stereo won't work now. Oh well, $75 down the drain and I prefer my Borla's Winston Cup soundtrack anyway...

I have dual power outlets in the center arm rest and mount my iPOD there. This thing has 4 GB of songs [my whole CD collection, along with my girlfriend's weird stuff] and this is less than 1/3 what it can hold. I bought a transmitter that allows it to play through 88.9 FM.....

I can buy all of this stuff at dealer cost. So, my money goes a little longer. I still have to put my 17" cups on and that means new tires as well so I dont want to go crazy. I just want good clean sound at moderate volume levels.

I dont want to sound like a teenager but I wouldnt mind a liitle bass kickin in the back. I road in Abby's 951 and he had two 6 inch tubes in the back that sounded great. I probably will run with those but the head unit and the speakers ( front and rear) are my greatest concerns.

I work at a company that has a wholesale division that sells to the mom and pop electronics stores here in New England. We are dealers for most of the major brands.

I have seen a few people modify the spare tire well, to fit a subwoofer.
So that way it can be hidden, and keep all your storage space.
Or you can put tubes, or a box, in the back.
You can mount a small amp on the back of the rear seats,
or on the box itself. It really depends how much bass you
need, and how much you are willing to mess with the stock
appearance, etc...

I put a box in mine, and I like it a lot.
But it does not look stock, or slick.
But it thumps nicely.

I did mine for a grand and the sound is incredible. Pioneer head (not the most original looking but has one of the cleanest pre-amp sections for the price in the industry... also has the most configurable crossover and level adjustments that I've seen), USAcoustics 4065 amp - front channels feeding Infinity 6.5" components in the doors and rear channels bridged feeding 12" eclipse sub in spare tire bay.

Amp fits under drivers seat, sub is flush mount in floor and door crossovers are inside the door... you can't really tell theres a system installed til you turn up the volume. Also, had 2 more Infinities in the rear speaker pockets and removed them... no appreciable difference in sound, confused the staging and made control much more difficult. Very clean sound, great imaging and more base available than is required for most music.

both my cars have subs in the spare wheel well as it vastly improves the sound. it fills out the low end nicely without overstating things. i dont think the choice of head unit or even door/pillar speakers is as important as having a sub!

I'll attest to the sub in the spare trick - looks sano and sounds great...use dynamatte in the doors - quiets down the car, and diamond seperates sound sweet...used JL main amp w/diamonds, and fosgate w/JL sub, casablanca headunit fit perfect...it better for $3k...amps can go on back of seats or some guys are using subfloor in trunk/cargo area...cleaner install...

Rob,
Could you explain more about the dynamatt? Does it really make a difference? Just curious.

I use an alpine head unit CD with aux inputs and 4 pre-amps, the nice thing is that it has a dial on it that looks 928ish and also looks fairly compatible with the interior. A CD changer mounted on the passenger shelf, 200 watt amp, boston acoustics all around in stock openings, and one 100w 8" bazooka- more bass than I'll ever need. Its so clear and loud that I've never needed to turn it up all the way.

I also run head unit only power (alpine 9811, 40Wx4) to the front and rear speakers (po upgraded to jbl front and rears). The head unit has built in adj crossovers, so I just added a self-amplified bazooka tube (el8a, $140) for simple bass. I suppose it's all relative, but it sounds super good even at louder volumes. By the way, the tube sits snug behind the rear seatback without any mounting hardware and has a snap wire harness for easy removal.

Moon,

I have the same problem. Added a new Blaupuknt CD Player with 55 watts per channel power. My speakers distort too. Removed rears and replaced with JBL, no help. Need power and subwoofer. The a hole that installed it bypassed the power amp at the passenger seat area. Any ideas? Maybe, run the power amp to the rears?

Thanks,

Ron
