Default Newbie questions ....duh

I have a 1980 euro spec "S" motor in a Porsche 914. The project is nearing completion. I was wonder what the red line for these motors are? O'm modifying the 4 cylinder tach for V8 use now.

According to the Tech Spec book the ignition is cut off (rotor mounted centrifugal contact) between 6240-6500 RPM's on the M28.11/12/19/20 engines. You are going to have one wild ride in that thing! Good Luck!

I'm sorry.

I reviewed my notes from the WSM. You are correct, I was wrong.

The Euro distributor is fun as the cut off can be easily adjusted with a pliers. You want 6250. That's bsmart. You want 6750? You can do that to.

You can also put in an early US rotor and have no limit at all. Mine came that way. The engine really pulls and sounds great at 7000! Then again, it's all apart right now.

I'm working hard to complete the car for the West Coast 914 Classic. It starts on June 4th with a cruise from the Bay Area to Monterey and back. Go to the 914club.com web site and click on the WCC symbol in the upper right corner for the details.
