Default Power steering pump bearings

Has anyone replaced the bearings in a later power steering pump? I found GerritD's thread from '18 on the pre-81 pump, but mine is an 86, so before I dive in I thought I would see if anyone has had experience with that series of pumps.

Ah, thanks Greg. Looking at the earlier pump in the writeup I mentioned previously I saw a ball bearing on one end of the shaft, so I assumed my year would be similar. Next assumption: plain bearings? That means pump replacement of course. I'll pull it and tear it down for curiosity's sake,, and I wouldn't be surprised to find damage to the pump body or sleeve inserts, as there was an incident a few years ago when the pump was run with very little lubricant (failed hose) for about 10 miles. Will post what I find for the general amusement.

If there was no metal in the power steering reservoir it is probably fine or else it would have taken the rack with it.

I would refresh it with a rennbay seal kit and call it a day. I just did it on a 944 and it is fairly easy to do so long as you have a good set of snap ring pliers.
