Default The Ultimate 928 Paint Job?

if you had the choice of any colour to coat your 928 in, what would it be? Include a sample colour picture.

Myself, I think silver metallic is the ideal colour to show off the 928's lines and curves. You may have noticed that many auto makers showcase their new cars in silver metallic for that very reason.

Here's the nicest silver metallic colour I think I've ever seen - a custom mix platinum metallic on a BMW 740:

Gorgeous, ain't it?

Silver, like Randys pic at the top but with a twist. I would use a Matte finish. Sounds odd im sure but i saw a vehichle at SEMA last fall in this scheme, it just looked awesome! The finish was smooth and flawless. I dont have access to my computer with the image on it but i will post it when i can. Its been added to my growing list of things to look into....way at the bottom though.

The Bimmer looks almost chrome, i like it! Sure would be blinding in the NV sun!

Silver is pretty sweet...

But I like black too.

But black is a pain in the *** to keep clean.

Default House of Kolor - Paint reference

http://www.autocolorlibrary.com/cgi-...arch/search.pl

The House of Kolor web site offers all the base Porsche paint chips (colors) for viewing. Cool reference point -

Iris Blue is my color of choice - so no pics!

Sorry no pics, but my father and I had a 912 that was restored and painted black. That car had paint like a mirror and when it was totally clean there was nothing more beautiful. However, clean only lasted hours - but a spotless black car is something else.

Black - I don't know why Porsche sold them in any other color.

this is the matte silver finish, not the best pic but you get the idea.

I have become pretty unappreciative of black, my dad had a 911T that was yellow in sun and green in shade. A 928 in that would look stunning! Also, perlglanz is spectacular. I may do it some day ... Oak green, Amazon green, Midnight blue, Iris blue, Nougat Braun, Granatrot, Weissgold etc etc etc

Randy agreed, a gorgeous silver. Reminiscent of the auto show Jag in pure unadulterated amukinium .... drool .....

Randy: That silver you show in the first picture is truly awesome! But as you all know, I like darker colors on the 928, and right now my favorite choice is amazon green metallic (which can look anything from blue to teal to black, depnding on the light).

Question for Tony: How woud you wax or polish a matte finish? How would you get scratches out of it? I'm worried that the effect would wear off pretty quickly. More quickly than with a glossy finish.

For as long as I can recall considering the subject I have thought that if I could only have one Porsche I would want silver with either black or blue interior. German racing colors are either silver or white, so it is correct. As for what Tony said, I couldn't agree more. I recall a 356A coupe when I was in undergraduate school in Tucson that was a terror in the autocross and was matte silver. It was not meant to be that way, but just weathered to a uniform dull or flat finish. Great! I loved it. A "machine" color and finish. Ever since then I have thought there must be a way to reproduce that finish. My Speedster was almost like that as it had weathered to a slightly dull silver. Then along came the clear coated 911s that looked wet. I bought 2 of them in metallic silver, and paid the price because the clear coats would craze and flake off. Terrible feeling to polish your new car every week and then a year later the clear starts hazing over.

I also prefer non-metallic colors unless they are silver or metal-like colors
like gold, grey or very light blue. Then they look like a machine, not an overstated gaudy shout. One color that is beautiful is dark blue non-metallic produced by Porsche in the late eighties primarily on Carreras. It appeared almost black but was really blue.

If I could not have silver, and I could not have the color I have and like (meteormetallic), I would want either yellow or orange. I told Susan at Devek about my fetish with orange Porsches and she looked at me as if I was some kind of pre-vert. Well, I like orange. I also like violet on 928s.

The two criteria that I consider to be foremost to consider when choosing colors for fast cars are opposite to one another and a balance must be reached: first, to be safe the car must be visible; light cars appear larger than dark cars and thus appear closer, and are noticed easier. Orange, red, white, yellow and even silver. Second, to be invisible to Smokey and other inquisitive chaps who I would prefer would mind their own business, the car should be not eye catching, irritating or flashy. Red is out because more red cars are ticketed than any other color. Too arousing. Jealousy is significant here. Not good to stir up anyone's unconscious resentments. White is safe and yet soothing and appeals to many people without irritating them, but Japan's color is also white. I still like orange but parking in a church or mortuary lot is likely to raise some eyebrows and also gets Smokey's attention. So what you say? I don't care if Smokey resents my liveliness. Well I do. So it's back to silver and meteormetallic. I think they are conservative, noble, dignified colors that are appropriate for machines and are still noticeable to pokes in pickups in nowhere, USA as you are approaching them at unreal speeds. Black scares me because it is so invisible at distances at speed. I want to be seen but not resented.
And impressing the neighborhood is also not on the top of my list of reasons for car choice.

Silver it is. (unless I could have three and the third would be aubergine/violet) Oh yeah, I forgot about my other one which is Irish Green which I love because I am a vegan

I really like the color of my 928. It's a dark purple metallic that shifts into black when there is no light on it..
