I like the speed yellow's I've seen; Zandramus', Brad's, and the Yellow Bird. And Ron H brings many of my points up as well, but I've never cared for silver myself. Black, red, white and silver were out, but the rest of the field was open. Saw several Blue's that caught my eye, but there were problems, most of which, were white interiors. I also saw a couple of the Wienrot, and Rubenrot color cars, which caught my eye, but these were a little too close to red. There was a forest green OB we were watching on ebay as well, ended up letting it go.
Then, this one came along;



And my wif lit up; Rosy is mine now. About the only thing I wish to change, if I could find a reasonably priced set, would be a set of the sport, or design 90 rims.
Otherwise, Rosy will stay stock. I liked the color when bought, but it has grown on me more, as the years go by. Not flashy like red, not show-car pain-in-the-@$$-to-keep-clean,-and-TOO-hot black, not blah and hard to keep clean white, nor silver.
I'm not disparaging these colors, when presented in a clean aspect, these cars ARE sharp to inspect.
But I expect to DRIVE Rosy, she's gonna get dirty.

Besides, I think Rosy's color is quite elegant. Understates her abilities!!! MUCH less attention from the "authorities"!

Silver - German cars just look better in silver. Like Cobra's and Corvette's that are blue with white stripes and Red Ferrari's, or British Racing Green on Jags.

There's a short list of colors I like on sports cars.
Some sort of metallic color
variations on silver (ie Polar, platinum)
Black or White (pearlescent on the white is required)
Guards Red (no 'rental car' car colors please)
And with rare exception, Speed Yellow

My personal bias is towards the silver and black variety

Hey Drew, I have to agree I love my Iris blue 85. I have a photo of here wearing Phonedials and looking a little dirty durnig a local PCA Wine tour.

I have no idea how to post that pic. grin!!

.... and if indecisive between yellow or silver, or further confused amongst the greys, greens, blues, ...., there's the warm sheen of copper metallic swimming in a sea of rich brown earth tones..... in harmony with Mother Nature, but dressed formally enough for any occasion: more stealth than flash.

I completely agree with Brett, some colours are just too loud, all the wrong people notice you. Before I owned my 928 I had in succession two identical cars - bar the colour. The first was red (which I never liked) and I was stopped by the authorities weekly, the second was a light metallic blue and I was almost never stopped. One of the occasions that I was stopped was when I was driving my new girlfriend home after our first date - about a minute after warning her that I was sometimes pulled over by the police.

I really like the Marine Blue colour I have, initially I thought it a little too dark, but it's grown on me. I also like the way the colour appears to change as you move, although much more subtlley than those Tri-layer(?) metallics.

Brett - Currently I have Club Sport wheels on the back (loaned to me by Jon928se for roadworthiness certificate purposes) and standard slots on the front. I much prefer the look of the slots, somehow the CS wheels look smaller.

Randy's first silver color is the color of James Dean's 550, which helped get him killed according to some pundits

I had a Lexus that was dark green metallic (don't know the color name). I bought it in winter and thought it was black for two months. Nice color shifting effect. Shame about the rest of the car, never had a Toyota so plagued by problems.

I believe that the Matte Silver car that Tony saw at the SEMA show was the Lancer EVO VIII. It was pretty nice.

If you want the finest paint provided in the industry it should be Glasurit by BASF. I used to like House paint, but I have seen quite a few shrink back problems with their urethane paints.

Did you know that BASF supplies almost all the really clean and brite color pigments to House? Anyway, if you want a custom candy color the best option is Charisma by BASF. It is sold in the RM Diamont line. It is the newest and best. Much of it was developed in part by Larry Mathis an incredible custome painter here in Salt Lake City. It truly is much nicer than House and so much easier to use with many less repaints.

Insist on Glasurit if you want your auto painted to a factory type finish. If you want a candy or custom, try the Charisma line by RM. I don't sell the product, but we do spray it and I won't go back.

Did you also know that the most expensive and clean colors to paint, for example bright red, is considerably cheaper in Glasurit than other paint companies? The reason is their standardized pricing. If you are painting white or black, try RM diamont and save some money.

Matte finish is something that isn't presented to us by the auto industry for a reason: it is VERY difficult to do!

A gloss finish does not show imperfections from the sprayer at all. A matte or dull finish would however....or at least would require an expensive paint process that would be typically expensive anyway. Nice try, but no cigar-

I share Tony's notion of a matte finish, but on a different vehicle. I used to own a '66 Ford F100 truck. It was an airport car, a vehicle for work only. I fantasized about coating the rusted beast with Linex.....

Sorry, not cost effective at all!

Thats not a matte finish, but still, a matte paint job would be wicked expnsive to do and outrageous to fix if you DID have a problem later on!

AND....how do you wax a matte finish?

I didn't even know they had a "Speed Yellow" before the 90's.... the only yellow I knew of on the older cars was a "Talbot Yellow", which I'm fairly certain my car was originally.

Can anyone clarify this with the OB's?

If were talking pure fantasy. (and If I had one I would restyle the front grille opening to a more shark like mouth, and shoot the top half with a non metalic charcoal color. instead add a hint pearl flip to the color, lower half like the first Jag.
