1979 928 RoW Vacuum Issues
Hi All,
I've been trying to work on my vehicle's rough idle by repairing and upgrading the vacuum system for the exhaust and engine, but it seems that my vehicle has had some sort of identity crisis as it doesn't conform to what I've read online and see in the manuals...
1. my EGR, EGR amplifier, and thermovalve don't exist on my car. Is this normal, or did the previous owner do some funny business?
2. I don't have a barometric control unit, or a 4-way valve-type thing. Is this normal? Where does the line from the deceleration valve go if there is no barometric unit? Do I need this or can I operate without?
3. My air pump is not hooked up, and it appears that some units link up with the secondary air from this. Do I need it?
Below is an overview of my bay (sorry for the mess) I've also attached an overview connection that I think is relevant + a a hose diagram with "x" on what I think is missing, and should exist. Any insight or help would be greatly appreciated!
Lastly, I've come across a sketch from another user and want to know if this is feasible.

In the middle of your diagrams (labelled 'vacuum hose Connections - Europe'), no 4 looks like the Aux air valve, used to provide extra air to lift the idle while warming up. This usually up front near the WUR; it would have an air inlet from the air housing, and an outlet bypassing the throttle plate, and an electrical connection . Its right next to 'of' in 'what do we think of this'. The red arrows on the vacuum advance unit will be one for advance, and one for retard, same as mine. Dont know about the others.

I'm posting this in addition to a post i've made in our region's FB group, i'm hoping to get some more advice on what I can do.
It's pretty much confirmed that my car is a grey market import. It has been registered in California, but it doesn't seem to have the standard US emissions equipment on it - i don't think it's been federalized - so I'm thinking it went through some dodge-y stuff to be registered. I have history showing that it has passed (and failed) smog going all the way back to 2000.
So far, it seems like i have two options:
1. Very expensive California air resources board and emissions work to get it legitimately evaluated at tested - this will cost ~$10k.
2. Try to source the correct US emission equipment (air pump, EGR, thermovalve, hoses, and stickers) and then get that all in working order before smogging again.
Can i get some insight from all of you on this? How awful would it be to try option 2? has anyone successfully done this?
Thanks for the help. (please go easy on me for not checking all of the emissions stuff in the first place before starting down the path of restoring ).
