Unaccounted For 928's
A friend of mine has been employed for the last 10-or-so years cosmetically maintaining a sizable car collection. He does everything from detailing to repairing trim, minor mechanical, sometimes not so minor tuning, and "exercising" the cars. His employer is an older gentleman who serendipitously had several relevant patents in his name right before the late 70's computer boom. My friend called me the other day because his employer expanded his responsibilities to include an additional collection he had. My friend knows I have a 928. After asking his employer's permission, my friend invited me to check out this other collection. (I had already checked out the collection he had been maintaining - it was wonderful - muscle car racers with gold leaf lettering, a Ferrari or two, a Viper, a custom corvette, NASCAR Mopars, a custom motorcycle or two, at least 50 cars in one location - wonderful!)
I finally got a chance to take him up on his offer and met him today at a non-assuming building in a mostly industrial area. Different location from the other collection, but a similar setup. Cameras at the entrance, as well. My friend seemed to have an extra big smile on him when I arrived. He walked me to the door and knocked or called (can't remember) and someone buzzed us in.
I will let the pictures describe what I saw, because words are difficult to come by to describe it. In short, I found myself in the middle of the largest personal collection of pristine 928's I had ever personally seen. I tried counting them at least twice, but could not. My guess is there were around 70 928's of every color and model year I could think of. But the sheer number was only part of what assaulted my grip on reality. Every single one I could access looked, felt, and smelled as if it had been moved by covered truck from some dealership showroom, new, to this warehouse where it had simply been kept secluded from the elements and the world.
Somehow I managed to think to memorize a few of the VINs. My later cross checking of the VINs against the 928 Registry convinced me further of what I now believe to be true. Every one of the VINs I checked came up as one of the "unaccounted for" or "whereabouts unknown" cars in the 928 Registry!
I will post the pictures as soon as I finish reviewing and vetting them with my friend, who probably will run them by his employer. However, I believe we should record this date as when most if not all of the Lost 928's were finally found!

The undisclosed "Gentleman" collector is none other than our own, beloved VannD At least that would be believable. Honestly though, if'n this were real (and who knows, maybe it is), there is no way the owner would ever give permission to post pics.
On an unrelated note, I had a most unfortunate accident with my beloved Blumaxx this morning. Not much left of it:
