Default 928s, Grand-Ams and Stupid Kids Don't Mix

Yesterday It took off the afternoon to give my shark it's first shakedown since the snow has melted. After two hrs. of fun twisies by the river, I put gas in it at the station a block from my house.

As I was driving the 300 yrs. from the gas station to my driveway, I put on my blinker,, slowed down for the oncoming car in the opposite lane, checked tosee if the garage door was actually coming up and finally checked my mirror, only to see two teenagers in mom's Grand-Am trying to pass me on the right!

Needless to say, the image of a head-on accident flashed through my mind as these kids crossed the double yellow and started to come around me!

Luckily for them, the other driver saw them and nearly put two wheels over the curb to avoid them. I scooted to the shoulder to give as much space as possible, and as these punks went by me, the passenger had a look on his face like the whole thing was just plain funny.

The whole thing makes me want to call my congressman and lobby for the drinking age to be 16 and the driving age to be 21. - Ruf

I dont fully agree with you on that Rufus,

I agree the min driving age should be raised abit, however 21 is abit much, I am only 20 and the only time I drive fast or slide around a corner is when I am the only car on the road, age is really just a #, it wont define how ppl act, I know people who are in there 40s who still drive like that, and in some ways they are worse than the 16 yo,
as per the drinking end of it, I would rather have weed legal than alcohol, I think alcohol is way worse,

Lizard, I was just venting. Maybe 19 instead of 21, and as you say it's just a number, but its so frustrating to see these kids act this way and they have no idea what is at stake for not only themselves but others as well. As you gain "something to lose" you gain maturity. Maybe they don't have a sense of being able to "lose something" yet.

I live in the land of white knuckles. To me the problem has not to do with age, but with testing. This Country needs way intense instruction and a really hard driving test. I remember the process when I was 16, I learned, but the test was a joke.

I saw a bad drivers TV program and this lady in New Zealand was a horrible driver. Apparantly they had a law where enough people called on you, you had to retake the test. You should of seen how horrified the tester was as the passenger in the car. This lady was going the wrong way down one way streets, pulling out if front of people, it was great. In FL, they are requiring people over a certain age to come back in a take an eye sight exam.

Ruf, if that was me, I would of chased them down and at least got their license plate #.

Sorry, i don't agree. Parents need to teach their kids to behave. I'm 19 years old, and I know that a majority of problem-kids could have been prevented had their parents done their job better.

You're right about kids not knowing what they can lose. Most "kids" just don't understand the value of life. They think they are invincible just because they are young. These are things that parents can teach their kids.

Just about all my friends except 1 or 2 are into drugs and other dumb things. I'm proud to say that I will never participate in such things, and plan to live a properous life.

mspiegle,

You got that right. I have two kids, age 10 and 7, so my time is coming to deal with the teen driving thing, but the most truth as you say, comes from the statement "Juvenile Delinquency is usually rooted in Adult Delinquency". - Ruf

On the way home today!
Some little OLD lady was getting on the highway, I was in the left lane
and she cut me off, than she went to the right lane (45-50 mph).

A Big Rig TURNED her around. -nice mess-

I agree the older ones are the problem in most case's. of course I am prejudice, ( I am in my 60's ) and wonder when will I have to stop driving and missing the 928. (Probably when I AM 80) So my advice is when you see a Burgundy 928 coming up behind you with his lights blinking please pull to the right so I can pass, Because I tend not to slow down.

There seem to be idiot drivers everywhere. I was getting on highway 85(two lanes per direction plus carpool lane) the other day and was merging fine until the guy I was going to merge a couple car lengths in front of sped up and forced me to hit the brakes to get in behind him. So I swung around him into the next lane and stayed next to him so he couldn't move out of his lane. I stayed there till there were a good number of cars itching to get through(didn't take long), then I gave him the finger and sped off.... the last I saw of him he was still stuck behind that slow-moving van, unable to move into the faster flow of traffic in the center lane.

Every once in a while a good opportunity comes along to slam the door on this kind of jackass. I sure do like to see instant karma in action.

I have multiple stories about driver stupidity. An accident that messed up my backand neck permanently in 7th grade was caused by a lady of foreign decent who pulled out into a 55mph road and didn't look... even when my mom honked the horn repeatedly. Ever wonder what it's like to be on the highside of a fullsize van on 2 wheels?? Not fun. At the court date the judge asked her if she pled guilty or not guilty. Her response was classic: "I don't feel guilty" (say with thik accent and innocent look, naturally).

Another back-injuring accident happened when a middle-aged man pulled into my lane as I was passing him on a highway. I hiked and he corrected...then over-corrected... then slammed into me. I had to jerk the steering wheel in his direction to avoid getting sandwiched between him and a guard rail. The police came and noticed his red nose and sniffles... he claimed he was sick and he jerked the wheel over as he sneezed. Anyone who can't sneeze and not jerk the wheel over shouldn't be driving.
