I am flying out tomorrow to pick up my new 928 in Ms. I cant believe I thought of trucking this car back! The planning for the trip has been a lot of fun.
Abby, a fellow rennlister is picking me up at the hotel in NO. and driving me to the car and then it is off to the races! realisiticly, I am going to take it easy in the southern states...if you know what I mean.
I am bringing my digital camera to document my trip back. If all goes well I will be back in Boston late Friday early Saturday morning.
Does anyone have a road help list handy???

Maybe John Struthers will chime, with a road-trip-home survival guide, as he has traveled far and wide, to bring home the ripest of 9s.
Hey look I'm a poet and didn't know it
I made the 12 mi journey home last night with my newly purchased 1980 5-speed without incident.
I had to travel all of 3 miles when I bought my S4.
Keful in them theya southern states.
What is your new car?

Andy,
I was not going to change my profile until I actually had the car but what the hell is 1 day?
I am up packing, so if you have any suggestions of road warrior gear to take with me let me know.

To get the Roadhelp list, you need to volunteer to be listed on it and provide assistance to others. That assistance can be as little as helping someone find a reputable shop/tow/hotel all the way to "have garage, tools and spare room".
You're asked to list your:
-location (usually w some reference to major interstates),
-your contact phone number(s),
-hours you can be called,
-the help you're willing to provide,
-and you can say whether 'social calls' are welcomed as well as 'help calls'.
I think its a great idea and I've used it once already on a roadtrip to N. Carolina. Greg is providing a great service by maintaining this list. To get on it and get your own copy, email Greg at 928roadhelp@charter.net with the information above. Although there are a fair number of people who have 'joined' the list, I'd like to see even more. The requirements are pretty minimal and I like the idea of helping/being helped when far from home.

Take your time and enjoy the trip! Although it will be hard to STOP driving your new car (I put in some 16 hour days driving home from San Antonio for that very reason!), it's definitely worth taking longer, less efficient, but more interesting scenic routes. After all, what are you going to do when you get home? Park it in the garage? Sit in Boston traffic? Dodge potholes? Why not stretch the best two days of your life to three or four?! Enjoy the scenic route!
Hope to see you at the Musante Motorsports Dyno Day and 928 OC gathering April 24!

Hey, we're starting to plan our trip too - exciting huh? I'm going to bring my J. Morehouse CD, a US atlas and a bra for the car to use only while driving (we'll take it off at night and of course if we see any rain). We're also bring a ton of beef jerkey!!!
