Dude the long arm of Da Lowe will get you only when it's looking and I suspect then, colour is not a factor

I only work here so don't blame me....but word on the street is that red cars receive significantly more citations than any other color. Irony is that red and bright stimulating colors are safer because of visibility. White is safer because it appears larger than it really is and therefore closer, and black is not so safe because of the reverse of white. Something about red stimulates Mr. Bear and I suspect, in their uniformly thinking mind (generalizing of course) that is perceived as irritating and maybe a bit of jealousy sneaks in also. Since I prefer to not interupt the bears at donut feeding time, I will always pass on driving a red car.

After reading most of the posts here I couldn't resist. A short time after I bought my 88 I drove it to work. I rarely do this so most people where I work have never seen it. That day the big boss (more like big CHEEZE) spotted the car and came over to stare and talk. This posser wanna-be starts off by asking what kind of car is it, what year, how much. (keep in mind that this guy knows more about everything than any living person) That left the door wide open. I told him it was last years, limited edition Porsche 928. Special order only form Germany. Cost $102,000.00. He nearly fell over but not wanting to look stupid he says "Oh yeah, I heard about that model. That's the one capable of 200 MPH". How could I possibly afford such car? I told I inherited some money and decided to go for it. Two weeks later he tells me he contacted Porsche in Germany and sure enough they had sold out of that limited edition model, otherwise he was thinking about ordering one. After all, he couldn't be outdone by some small fry like me. To this day he and several other fellow employees believe that 88 is a 2004 car. I not about to let them off the hook.

That's the best story I've heard in a long time!

Back in the early 80's, one of the car mags (Car & Driver or Road & Track, something like that) did a radar study. Anyway, part of it brought out the fact that a lot of the time, when law enforcement officers use their then microwave radar guns, it would tag the most acceptable target. Not necessarily the aimed at target. Also, when cars were grouped together, the officer would perceive it was the red car if it was somewhere in the front. It may not have been the one the radar waves tagged, but because the red vehicle stuck out more visually than all the others (due to color), the officer would make a decision that was the vehicle checked.

I'm not sure if I should be laughing at this or not. According to Carfax my '84 was bought new in Dallas from the dealer and then the next day was registered in Brownsville (at the border). Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Haven't found anything in the interior or hidden in the wells but I'm still looking.

OK, time to bring this thread to life again.

After suffering through a week of not being able to drive the shark for a week (rain for a few days, then needed to drive other vehicles to work for various reasons), finally got the shark out this morning. First stop was the car wash. Then other miscellaneous activities.

This evening I decided to take my wife to our favorite Thai restaurant (a week without Thai Hot is a week not worth living for me, and it was getting perilously close to a week). Perfect opportunity to travel in style. Shark style. Instead of parking a good distance away so I'd keep a good buffer zone around the car, I decided for a change to park right up front by the door. And right next to two brand-spanking new gorgeous silver Mercedeses. A shiny black C5 Vette was a few cars away, too.

We wound up getting a table right by the front window, with a clear line of sight to the parking lot; the shark was probably 15 or 20 feet away.

About 5 minutes after we sat down, the youngest employee (early teen) went outside, spotted the shark, slowly circled it and checked it out for a minute or two. Then he came in, and I heard him telling another employee something like "there's a ... outside" (I couldn't quite hear the details). After that, there was a parade of 5 or 6 employees (and the owner) going out to check it out over the next few minutes. Also noticed a few other patrons doing some major gawking on their way out over the next hour or so.

When we left, the owner happened to be taking a break, discovered that we were the shark's owners, and struck up the "Nice car? What year is it? Running well?" conversation.

Damn satisfying evening. The food was good, too. And I seem to remember conversing with my wife a bit, too, but those memories are a little hazy...

I have two, short attention stories that happened last week:
1)..Last week, I sat at the bank's drive-thru window for a good 15 min., and noticed two youngsters were hanging-out at the Suzuki shop next door. They kept their eyes glued to my 928, with smiles locked in their faces, as I waited for the teller to return. As I left, I passed by them and I heard them yell, "Hey, is that a Porsche 928?".....then a short pause and one of them added, "an S4??" I was impressed. I gave them a big thumbs-up.

2)..I was visiting a business associate one afternoon and a friend of mine, who I haven't seen in over a year, dropped by. The first thing he asked me was "Hey, was that you I saw over the weekend driving one of those brand new, red Corvettes?" I looked at him casually and said, "No, it's a Porsche." His eyes went white and his jaw dropped.....then he smiled with admiration. I took it as a compliment.....not that he thought it was a Corvette, but that he thought it was a new Corvette.

Those are great stories! I know I have had some attention given to my 928, just usually its the kids who are more obvious about it, or are more honest in how they react. The one time that sticks in my mind is last fall when I was driving my daughter to high school. There is an elemetary school nearby so there are younger ones walking to school. A youngster, about 8-10 & his older sister(assuming since I had seen the two of them on subsequent occasions), were walking together when I come up from behind them going the same way, but across the street from the sidewalk they are on. I look over just in time to see the kid as he sees the Shark & I kid you not, he just STOPS DEAD IN HIS TRACKS, HIS MOUTH OPEN WIDE AS HIS HEAD FOLLLOWS MY CAR DRIVING BY!! It was like he was caught in a trance! His older sister never even noticed the car, she kept on walking, then about 15 feet past him, she turned around to see where he was! Guessing she asked him what the heck was the matter with him! I would also guess that he probably thought he'd seen a Ferrari or such, who knows. I'll never forget that look on his face though, made me smile for sure!

I got a chuckle out of it especially since my daughter has nicknamed my car the "UGH" as in ugly!!!! I cant disown her just for that! Course at one point my wife told her that was going to be her car once she started driving!! Wont happen cause I cant give it up that easily! My daughter's best friend told my wife last week she thinks its a really cool car, which was nice to hear!

Remember other cases of compliments... one came from a local Jax. motorcycle cop at a breakfast shop near my office, sometimes 5-6 of them meet there in the am. He was very complimentary about the car in not only how it looked but also in how they were made. He seemed to know alot about them. I hope if I ever peeved off a cycle cop its him!

Had several college age boys a couple of months ago at my son's apt complex pay a compliment too. From 25 yds away one of them said to the others, Oh wow, thats a Porsche 928!... then he saw me & said louder in my direction, Nice Car! Which I of course replied a Thanks!

The day we went to pick up Rosy, made the transaction, loaded Rosy up, went and found a gas station to fuel up for the start of the trip home, had seen an International House Of Pancakes on the way to the gas station, we don't have those in Ohio, so back we went.
Got out of the car, and as we were walking towards the entrance, a much younger fellow, much like one of those muscle beach types, was holding the door open for us.
"NICE looking 928 you have there, had it long?"
No, actually, we just picked it up.
"Well, I had one awhile ago, and am thinking of trying to find another one" Well, we found this one on ebay, and there are, or were, several to be found down here, in the three or four months we were looking.
"WOW, I'll have to look into that!"

And while we were in the waiting line, he kept talking to us about the car, and three or four times during our meal, the guy came over and asked more questions!
Quite enthusiastic about the car! Made the trip home even more pleasant, already someone I didn't know, showing enthusiasm for our acquisition!

I once had a lady sit in the passenger seat, look across at me and say - "In this car you look taller and slimmer..."

Its still my favourite 928 moment.
