A couple of weeks ago, on the way home in the '91, a Yellow F355 GTS/F1 passed by me on the left. The driver gave me a big thumbs up. I was surprised enough that I just managed a feeble wave of the hand.

Gas station attendant at local Mobil station (NYCity)
used to call my shark the Austin Powers car.

Wonder how the 928 would look paired up with
the Shaguar with both in Union Jack livery.

Dang Donberry,
Your daughter NEEDS to talk to mine; sez it scares her!?!?

I've had the occational looker, but most of your stories are superior to mine.
The best I can manage, is one time, in Circleville, Ohio, I stopped in at a fast food joint, and the kid at the register says "What year Supra is that?"

I have never yet heard it cornfussed with a Ferarri yet.......

Liked the story of the kids going ape in the mini-van....

Several months ago, I brought in my shark to the neighborhood Esso here in North Vancouver. As I was refueling the car, an elderly gentleman came up to me and asked (in a very thick Germanic accent), "Is that Porsche still understeering for you?". Needless to say I was stunned. As far as I knew, I was the only one who knew my car WAS understeering at the time, due mostly to having 205's up front. This guy was able to pick that out, and as we continued our discussion, he knew A LOT of technical details about the 928 (much more than the average elderly gentleman who walks up to a fine car and strikes a conversation with you).
As it turns out, this guy (Johann) immigrated from Austria, and in his younger years worked for Porsche as a factory test driver in the 1970's! The stories he told were incredible. One thing I do clearly remember is his description of his greatest exploit- extensive testing of a prototype that was to become the 930.

Needless to say I spent the entire afternoon gassing up my car!

Cool That is the first Volkswagon I ever liked!"

Long ago, and far away, when my Mom saw a 911 in our small town,... She said: "That is the first Volkswagon I ever liked!"

That's funny. I say the same thing when I see a Boxster.

I seem to get much more respect on the road in the 928 than in our other vehicles, or at least the Protege (go figure )

And I get looks and comments at the gas stations sometimes as well, although, once there was a boxter owner one pump over that didn't even look in my direction, lol shucks.

BTW a girl at school DID ask me if I was the one that drives the old Ferrari. I know for a fact there are no old Ferrari's on the lot

LOL! He was only about 11 years old and all into his roller skates. I could not have kept up with him... I think it must have been more some of my stuff than myself. The funny thing was that he did not like the 928 very much when he first saw it (called it "old fashioned"). But the moment he saw what it was, he went nuts. Talk about brand consciousness...

Hmmm... I already have a coffee table as well as a 928 engine. And I have to tell you that I feel each of them is in its right place right now. So, for now I don't think we have a deal. But it would look great in Normy's living room, next to the motorcycle - no?

Talking quite the compliment

I was looking for a thread to post this recent experience...

One night last week, I had just cleaned the 928 and wanted to show-off the glossy shine on the boulevard. So I took her out for a short spin. As I entered the main (4-lane, 2-way) boulevard, I kept it just below the speed limit. I decided to stay in the left lane and within a few seconds, out of the corner of my eye, I noticed a car had pulled-up even with me in the right lane. It kept pace with me for at least 1/2 mile. I'm thinking - teenager in a corvette or something. But I eventually decide to look over to see who is trying to attract my attention - it's the local police! He's driving with the window down, thumbs-up and a big grin on his face.
I think that's one of the best (non-Rennlist) compliments I've received to-date...
