The ones on my 85 have dents in them. And some scratches. Pretty sure they're metal.

As always, I could be wrong on that.

They are definitely some sort of rubber/plastic. They are soft and flexible when I pulled them off of my 81.

Personally I go for what the car had when it rolled off the line. Unfortunately someone used rubstrips to hide accident damage on my 81 so I am deleting them to bring it back to stock.

Plus I personally don't like how they look on the early cars with no spoilers. I'm also deleting the side markers and rear wiper as I had to buy a NOS hatch because mine was so tweaked.

As others said, it is a personal matter of preference. I think the S4 wears them well, but the GTS and standard 928 look best without them.

Hi Shawn,
I hope you guys enjoyed the bourbon at Shark Camp.
I sold the black '82. Space is pretty tight in the barn, and I have my new project still on rotisserie.
I have been able to get some good deals on paint work during the pandemic, which has me moving toward painting the blue beast.
Dave

Get rid of them. I've never seen a 928 that I thought looked better with them than without them.

Fair enough.

Not the first time I was wrong...

Won't be the last.

How do you guys just “delete” them? Will there be holes in the doors?

Yes holes that need to be properly filled/welded before the repaint. I have this on the agenda after some mechanical stuff. There are threads here that explain the process a little- I remember a repaint done in Atlanta where they did a good job.

My 91GT was repainted by PO and had its strips removed and holes filled in the process. Although I would have not done this, I do find it an aesthetic improvement despite deviating from original spec (option M418). Should things change in the past I’m sure I’ll be able to find instructions in the WSM or on RL

Apologies for minor hijacking… any particular reason for removing the rear wiper? You guessed it… Prior Owner “deleted” that too… Happy to start a fresh thread if this becomes a discussion.

The rear wiper? How is it useless? It's never failed to function as intended and clear water in my experiences. A rear wiper has always been a Porsche thing and unless optioned without one from the factory why bother removing it?

Personally speaking, I would pay a lot less for a car which has had things like side strips and rear wiper removed by an owner. A lot less. Sorry. I think would-be owners of these examples should know that for some of us that would lower the value, before undertaking such a task.
