Default Wire question

on the right side of the fusebox, I see these three set of coloured wires - the red doesn´t look original (the thick part of the wire), the blue/black I really doesn´t know what is for and same with the brown/white. Any ideas? It is a 928 from 1978 (Europe) model I have. Thanks in advance.

Since nobody else has chimed in, I'll toss in this:

I don't know what they might go to.

I don't know the specifics of a 78. There's a lot of variance as the years went by.

But...

Going purely by color, blue/black is dash illumination.
Brown/white is the switched ground that goes to the door switches for the interior (dome) lights.

As Joe says, Brown and variants of Brown are always Ground.

Brown w/white stripe is a switched ground, as used in the interior lighting, as Joe stated.

Is that an inline Fuse holder, red wire?

ok, great with the brown one thanks - and thank you all for input. Not sure where to plug it in though, everything works except for the windshield washer, but I am waiting for new washer motor. Yes the red one is "homemade". I took this better picture.

Yes definitely an aftermarket inline ATC fuse holder - what is it connected to for power and where does it go to?

Brown white might be for light inside glove box.

Does car run? I was expecting to see either a black distribution plug or a white jumper plug, else a single jumper wire at the z distribution plug position.

Wondering the destination of single wire leaving what I think is the y plug.

I'm normally working on 84 or 86 cars, so maybe I'm missing something on the early car. But I though Z was alarm on early car too?

Yes, the car runs, and there are also light in the glove box and the light switches in the doors works fine. I don´t know where the red "aftermarkdet" ones goes to (just another red wire, that is a part of the original wireingloop. I will try to pull it off to see if makes any changes - just waiting for the last bit for my fueltank before I can start it up again:-). The car was not born with an alarm, so I removed all of the old alarm system, that was for sure aftermarked installed - see the picture. l am happy that no one cut the original wire, except for the start switch, now it is all back to normal, everything works besides the washer intensive, I suspect the relay to be the fault here. I have replaced flasher and headlamp wash relay, and are wating for two new motors for the washersystem :-). I love it original.

Oh my.

You should send that one to Dave C (Worf) to use as punishment in the 'Post a Pic' thread.

No actual critters involved, but that's one hell of a rat's nest.
