You want to skae your head in disbelief?
I post this not to make myself look like a real dumbass but to make you all aware of a mistake you can very easily make. I have posted a couple of threads with my trans problems. Some of you might remember. Well long story short I got the new trans in and all the bolts on hand snug on and new suspension in rear. Basically the whole back of the car is in again. Can anyone guess what I f#@ked up? I would leave you in suspense but it really was not that funny when I found out. When putting the tranny shaft back in the TT I forgot to line up the notch in the shaft for the coupler bolt to go thru. Unless one of you wizzes out there can think of something easier the whole f$*king trans has to come back down.
Lesson of the day!
1) This was part 3 in the reinstall instructions. NEVER GO OUT OF F@#KING ORDER.
I hope this saves someone aggrivation someday.

Joe,
I HATE it when that happens. Let me tell you about the time I put everything back up, including the exhaust, and then found the foam insulation that goes between the shifter hole and the TT. Luckin' Fovely....
Anyway, on to the current crisis at hand, yours. One can undo the trans mounts and the front four bolts of the TT. Slide the trans toward the back of the car. This will give you about two hairs, maybe three. Which will be just enough to slide the whole TT/trans assembly off the front and rotate the shaft as necessary to be where you need to be.
This has worked for me. As always YMMV.

Joe,
I feel your pain my man. when we put my brothers transmission back in after I had snugged the 6 bolts up from the torque tube to the transmission housing I realised I had left out the pinch collar. I am glad that I didnt put the suspension in like you did though. Chalk it up as experience and pull it back apart. I dont think you will be able to move the transmission rearward with the suspension under it.
One might try taking the transmission mounts off of the transmission and then removing the bolts of the torque tube from the transmission housing and prying the transmission rearward but I dont think you will get it far enough to rotate the shaft.
the thing is though I dont remember having to line up the pinch bolt when we did that, are you certain that the grove doesnt go all the way around the shaft? is it possible that the pinch bolt is just not pushed on the shaft far enough?
anyway take a second look before you take it all back apart and take a second look at the procedures.

It doesn't have to come "down" but you'll need to push the tranny back enough to re-align the splines. Support the tranny, unbolt the torque tube and mounts and give it a good shove.

This is incouraging guys but how do I get to the upper TT bolts? Even with the trans down it was a bitch getting to those bolts. I laid under that nightmare for an hour thinking of what I have in the arsenal to get to those bolts. I will buy a tool if one is made to get to them.
Bernard, My father and I did a whole 360 on the flywheel. I spun the couple around while the tube was spinning and there was only one spot where that bolt would line up and the shaft was in the way.
That tranny shaft has to come out of that tube. Anyway the front of the tube come down and working from that way?

Similarly, I forget what exact combination of tools I used, but I did remove/install with the torque tube in place. Thinking breaker bar, extension, U-joint then socket. Did forget to remove them at first as they can't be seen from below.

Joe the groove on the drive shaft goes 360 so you need to move it forward or backward , that is the only requirement . You could move the drive shaft by loosening the front clamp bolt on the flex plate and prying on it . As you point out the square collar clamp on the trans input shaft must line up with the notch on the input shaft for the bolt to pass through BUT the drive shaft groove is all the way around the shaft . Try moving the drive shaft before you take it all apart .

The problem is that little hole you have to work through to get the bolt through the collar. Just the right angle and its when the four rear bolts are backed off a bit. If I recall, you can get the tranny to move back without dropping everything, all they way. Im pretty sure you have to loosen the suspension bolt. The good thing is the brakes, e brake and such can stay intact.

I am going to try and getting a better look on the input shaft. Sure wish i had one of those scopes they use in surgery proceedures because of that damn hole.
