Unhappy Engines died when hot

81, 928. Started fine, ran like a rocket for about 10 minutes, temp got to normal, then engine cut out and died at about 65 mph. Trying to restart unsuccessful, taken back home on tow truck, no sign of life until it cooled way down, then fires, runs a second or two, and stops. Will do this for ever. Have seen problem before, but after 3 or 4 tries always started and ran fine, was a broken 'T' in vacuum line. Suspect fuel supply, any one have any suggestions.
Thanks

relay , relay , relay try the fuel injection relay 928 615 119 00 top row eight from the left . It sounds like your car is firing on the 9 th cold start injector but not getting anything from the other 8 injectors so quickly runs out of gas . If the fuel pump were bad it would probably never fire .

If that doesn't work, check the ground on the front intake mannafold, passangers side. If it doesn't connect for some reason, you out of the count.

Thanks, Jim, I agree, pump should be ok, i'll bypass relay and see if it fires, and go from there. I have the shop manual, so i'll follow the book!

Glad I could help . Anyone who drives a 928 should become familiar with the fuse / relay panel because sooner or later it WILL turn off the car , often it is intermittent and after cooling down the relay becomes magnetic enough to hold the contact points together .....for a while !!

I agree, Jim. Having done a complete engine rebuild on the 928, and several porsche before that, i should have thought electrical first, but this is teh 1st electrical problem i have really had, except for teh alternator going out; and particulary as i also have a land rover, and they are known for electrical problems which i am quiet expert and finding :-)
