Since owning my 928 (about 4 months doing 3000 km), I have checked the oil level on the dipstick regurarly, and everytime it looks full.

Now the reason for my concern is that I read on a site that the oil consumption is about 2.4 liters per 1000 miles (1600 km), which means I should have used more than 4 liters already, not topping it up!

Am I reading it wrong or is this possible?

Entirely possible AFAIK - I think specs says "up to" 2 liters per 1000 Km (thought it was 1 actually). My car uses no oil in periods, then suddenly decides to "swallow" a liter or two. I guess it has something to do with the kind of driving I do (city/freeway long/short trips etc.), but haven't figured out a pattern yet.

you may not be going fast enough! ive found that high rpm excursions, 6000 or so, leads to more rapid consumption in both cars with the SE being the worse.

PS. According to the spec, it uses 1.5 liters per 1000 kilometers

I've never run my car over 5000 rpm, as I've got an automatic gearbox and never (or actually rarely) go over 180 km/h
