Default Is there a 10" Cup wheel that

Will fit the back of the GT? I like the Cup wheels I am running on Gretch, but I need wider rubber to accomodate the extra ponies......

I would really like a 17" x 10" Cup wheel. I wouldn't really mind if I have to have them made, like the 3 piece wheel......But then I would try for the widest possible combination that will fit in my whel well.

Please let me have your wise counsel, oh Rennlist members....

If you like the looks of the Kinesis Supercups, they make it in a 17x10. At the Specialists for 2750 I think. I don't know about Fikse, but some FM10s would always be nice

Hey Gretch,

Check with Dennis Kao (California) (the jeepvideo guy). He has what I believe are 10 inch cups on the rear of his track car Not sure if they are 17s or 18s... I saw the car at Devek days (back when Chris Novak still owned it) and there was a discussion about the rims. If you can't find his email (or he doesn't respond) I'll see if I can find his email addy.

Good Luck

Thanks, I just checked both Specialists and International sites. No 10" wide Cup wheels. Gotta admit they have some noce looking wheels for sale though.....What am I gonna do with 3 sets of wheels though......Man this is a disease....................................How wide a tire can you put on an 9" rim? I am running 255 40 now on a 17" rim.

look for a Cup 2 wheels, I think they made 10" in them, although the widest I have ever seen on these cars is a 305, but you will have to roll the fenders slightly

I run 17x9 and 17x10 Fikse Mach Vs on the GTs. The 17x10s just fit with the rolled fenders of the GTs.

Also, the benefit of the Fikse's is that they are forged. The Supercups are cast and a lot heavier.

One wheel with the CUP-look are the CUP3's that were used on the 965's (911 turbo 3,6).

A 275/40ZR17 is max. on 9" width: section is up ~0.6" to10.8" and od is up ~0.6" at 25.7" compared to a 255/40ZR17.

928 Specailists has these in 17"x10":

I was really trying to work these into my budget this year but couldn't do these and bilstein/eibachs with every thing else I needed.

I have a set of Mille Miglia Cup 2's with 18x10 ET 52 mm offset rears. I think these have long been out of production though.

I wouldn't bother with these replica wheels. I've owned the 17" Cup 1's and 18" Cup 2's and found that they're heavy and that they bend easily. BBS has a several wheels that have 10" rear & 8.5" fronts which would fit. I'd give those a shot first.

If you're looking to go WIDE, then the only solution is a custom 3 pc wheel like Kinesis. With the right offset, you can fit 11" and 295 mm street tires pretty easily. With fender rolling and inner fender hammering, DEVEK has managed to fit 315/30/18 R-compound Michelin Cups (which run wide for the size) on 11's on my car.

Gretch,

If you're willing to settle for 9.5", Devek advertises the Speedline Cup Racing wheel in their magazine. Big dollar$, but it gives you the stock Cup I look, from an OEM supplier, that fits the 928, all the way around.

Gretch:

Actually, it is possible to reliably widen a wheel (cast one piece in this context). Not that this is the only example, but there was a gentleman located in Monterey, CA in Excellence some years ago who had a nice set of Cup wheels widened for his customized 944 (nicely done at that).

Of course, there are a lot of variables that will be critical to the success of the modification, but the point is that it is possible. There are actually many businesses that will do wheel widening, though it's been a while since I looked for one.

I do think that it's not a practical solution, unless a person already has a set of wheels that they are set on. For the price of a set of wheels, shipping, and widening, you come close to a set of modular 3-piece wheel set (okay, there will still be a couple of hundred $ difference per wheel... but that's close enough). But if your wheels are the exact ones you want, but wider than it's a viable option.

I wouldn't race on the though... or almost any cast wheel for that matter.

Regards,
Abdul
