Default Noisy window mechanism

Hi all,

I have a question about my 928s2 window motors - I have just had the motor out on one side, cleaned it up and lubed it, got the brushes freed up so now it works really well, very strong action, however now it's all back together the whole thing sounds pretty noisy, it's not binding at all but it's making grinding sounds, bit rattly. I am thinking something to do with there being a lot of play between the tubes and the white plastic saddle part the rides up and down. There's now plenty of grease so nothing is sticking. Any tips?

I'll be doing the passenger side tomorrow as well as that's so slow it's almost not working, hopefully I can free that off as well and make it better.

Thanks folks!

I had a window motor that had a rusty pinion gear and it made a lot of noise,
it made a grinding noise.

Thanks, I'll check that. The worm part was OK, can't remember about the pinion gear, will look again now I know what I'm doing. Hope it's salvagable as it;s otherwise pretty good.

UMM I think we might be talking about different gears,
I am talking about the long thin gear that drives the white plastic gear, NOTE this is inside the gear case.
NOT the gear that runs the window lift arm

The play on the white nylon saddle can be reduced by fitting a cable tie around the post and saddle - not too tight, and lubed. I bought a pair of saddles many years ago, only to find that despite them having the correct LH and RH part numbers moulded on them, they were both RH types.

Thank you, I'll look at that, I remember how the saddle goes around the post, so I'm assuming the saddle is held to the post a bit tighter by the cable tie taking up some of the slack, I noticed there was some play in it, saddles being pretty loose over the post.

There are pads inside the saddle holes to take up slack with minimal friction, but they wear out and leave things slack. The other thing to look at is there is a rubber pad in the bottom of the vertical post , which sits on a metal pin on the bottom of the door. These rubbers can die with age and heat and allow the post to move and maybe rattle - check how firmly the bottom of the post is located before you button things up.

Hey Freddy

I am trying to decipher pin outs for the window connector under the dash to hotwire my S2's window motor before traillering my car. What year is your S2 and do you recall the motor wire colours?

HI Freddy yes I think that helps me identify pin numbers, thanks. I will have a go at not letting the smoke out of my wires, David
