Default Coolant level float

Was wondering if anyone has the BMW coolant sensor part number.

My sensor works but float has a small leak somewhere. It looks like the float from the BMW part may work.

Has anyone ever just cut the bottom of the float off and filled it with foam. The sensor portion I believe is in the top of the float. So, in reality will anything that is buoyant piggy backed onto the float work?

Thanks

My float was dead, just stayed on the bottom so light was always on. Made one from some hard foam cut to size and covered with light coat of epoxy to seal, did the job and works now.

Great,
So is the sensing part at the top of the float?

Default Yep

With the bottom removed. Sensor (magnet ring) is in the top. I would imagine that if worse came to worse you could just get that magnet ring and attach it to a block of foam.

Cant exactly remember, hook up an ohm meter and pass the magnet over to find the where the sensor switch closes, know it took some trial and error to get the position and size right, and when I was done it under read the the level a bit (tested with a ohm meter) but was still better than no sensor.
