Default Rennbay \ Odometer Gears \ Sale + New Products

Hello everyone. I just wanted to drop in and let everyone know about some of our new products. We have just expanded our line of odometer gears to include the 911, 928 & Euro models. The gears will fit all cars with non-cable driven odometers up to model year 1989.

As usual, to kick off our new products we are offering a 50% off sale. All gears are $19.50. This sale ends Saturday and is only accessible from the link below. US orders will ship via UPS. Foreign orders will ship at the same price but will go out by USPS.

Rennbay, inc. has just completed its first year as a real business. I would like to thank all of you for your support and for helping make all of this possible.

I looked it up on your link, but when going to checkout the total for a 928 gear comes to over $40.00.
I need one for my '87 S4 AT, could you send me an invoice or Paypal request?
regards,
Sab.

Sab,

You have to purchase from the direct link. If you browse around Rennbay and then go back to the odometer page it is going to give you the normal price.

If you are in coral springs you are just up the road from me. If you like, you can give me a buzz sometime tomorrow or this weekend and I will come up and help you put it in. You will save the shipping and you can just pay in cash if you like.

I'm curious...
If this odometer gear is the weak link in the system, what gear will now be the weak link?
Was this spur gear intended to be the weak link, or is this just poor design/material selection.

Travis,
There's another place on the 'net selling gears as well. But they say its not possible to know what gear to buy with out seeing it. So I figured I would have to pull the gauges before I could order a new one. I have a Canadian '85 928 calibrated in KPH. Should I assume the "Euro" gear you sell will work for me?

Jim,
The gear was not designed as a "weak link" per say. To tell you the truth I am not even sure why they made that gear out of a different material. the only reason I can see, coming from a plastics background, is that they would have had trouble getting the angle of the larger worm meshing gear out of there tooling if it was made from anything else.
With the new gears made out of much better materials, the weak link now becomes the little electric motor driving the system. intermediate interruptions of this motor, like when resetting the trip while moving, should not be a problem. The motor will just stall for a second then pickup where it left off. Now holding down the trip reset button and letting the motor try to push for 20 min would be a different story.

Glenn,
The place you are refereing to uses that "line" because they did not take the time and resources to research the models. If you buy one of my gears and it turns out that somehow you have an oddball setup that does not match the standard (it happens sometimes, but not often) I will send you out the correct gear immediately.

Travis,

Do you offer a detailed removal/installation procedure, complete with tools needed? Thanks.

I dont have a pictorial of the process yet but it is quite simple. If you can remove your gauge pod and use a screw driver , you have it licked.

The only thing some people get caught up on, which is also simple once you know what to do, is removing the speedo needle. You need to apply a constant upward pressure to it while gently rotating it counter clockwise past its zero position. It should twist and slip right off the shaft. Even upward pressure is needed but can easily be achieved by hand. Just take your time and dont get in a rush. If you need any help I am only an email away.

On a side note, if any of you 928 guys out there with digital cameras on hand want to snap a few shots on your installs, it would help me a great deal in making a good online tutorial for this.

I just wanted to let evey one know that all the orders placed so far have been sent out. Most went out via UPS yesterday and the others went USPS today.
The sale page and pricing is still good until midnight tonight for anyone who missed it.
Thanks again for all of your support. If anyone has any questions about the installations just drop me an email. travis@rennbay.com will get directly to me.

KLA Industries (A Rennlist Sponsor - www.klaindustries.net ) also makes replacement gears and has a detailed write-up with pics on their site showing the gear swap:
