Default FS: Set of 18" Fiske FM10's for 928

I just acquired another 928 and it came with a really nice set of staggered Fiske FM10's in 17". They're not really my style so I think I'd rather recoup some money for the build. Figured that I'd see if anyone here is interested before I clean them up and throw them on ebay. Not sure on backspacing yet b/c I havent pulled them yet but they fit the car without spacers or any rub. One of the fronts has some very minor rash on the outer barrel that will sand off easily- pic of that area below. The other 3 wheels are perfect but pretty dirty in the pics. There isnt any corrosion or oxidation on them (CA car), just excessive brake dust that I havent wiped off yet.

Seems like $2500 is approx. going rate according to ebay and rennlist. Willing to negotiate if you think that's too high but it seems about right to me. Willing to ship.

Note these are for 17" wheels not 18". I didnt account for the extra lip bevel and didnt bother looking at the tire size. Cant change title, my apologies!

What wheels are you looking for? I have a set of 17 inch Cup 2s with good tires to trade plus some cash

Probably more interested in cash that I can throw into getting the interior sorted. I've got the 5-spoke Panamera 18s on my other car and they go for really cheap out here in CA.

Matt,

The Fikse wheels were introduced to the 928 community by Dave Roberts of 928 Specialists some 16 years ago as I recall. Dave offered options on the front for either 8 or 9 inch rims and on the rear for 9 or 10 inch rims. Needless to say as with everything Dave did he specified the correct offsets and those wheels invariably are 3 piece with a forged centre and incredibly strong. Based on the photos you submitted it is clear to me that the offsets are correct and my guess is that Dave would probably have supplied those wheels to the original purchaser.

To enhance the marketability suggest you advise what size rubber is fitted and what the rim widths are. If they are the 9/10 combo you would likely get more for them than if they are the 8/9 combo that is still an excellent package. The FM10 is a good looking wheel, I was thinking about purchasing some before I got an offer I could not refuse on the wheels I use.

Fred, Thanks for the info! Just went out with a tape measure and took a closer look. I get 11" on the rears and 10" on the front. However, when I checked the tire size I realized that these are actually 17's and not 18's. When I measured the diameter with a tape, I didnt account for the extra lip they seem to have. Thus, I'm not sure if the 11" and 10" I am getting for the widths are correct as it seems like they could be the 9/10 combo you're talking about. Tire sizes for front and rear are: 235/45r17 and 255/40r17.

Updating the title. Appreciate any more info you might have.

Matt,

Dave offered options for both 17 and 18 inch rims. With the tyre sizes you advise I would expect the rims to be the 8/9 combo. The beauty of these wheels is that they are modular and lips and barrels can be had for about $300 each and thus permit reconfiguration such is the versatility for those that may be interested.

Hmmm.... I'm not so sure they're the 8/9 combo. It could be the tires and/or the way the lips sit but they look a fair bit wider than my staggered Panamera 8/9s. Thoughts? Do they have markings on the inside of the barrels?

A 235x45x17 can be fitted to a 9 inch rim but would be something of a waste given the performance advantage a 255 gives to frontal grip that the 928 screams out for. Folks who purchased such wheel packages invariably were interested in the wider size rim options and as I recall there was no cost difference.

On three piece wheels they do not stamp wheel size on the rims because of the potential size range created by different lip and barrel combinations. Just get your tape measure out and see what you get noting that rims sizes are defined by the width of the rim from tyre seating surface to surface.

As an FYI the lips on the front wheels needed to generate ET65 invariably have a width of 1.5 inches [it is nigh on impossible to make a 1 inch lip]. Thus if you have front barrel that is 7.5 inches wide you would have a 9 inch wheel. Rear wheels tend to have a 2 inch lip so a 10 inch wheel would have a 8 inch barrel.

The 255 dimension of the rear tyre size refers to the width of the tyre when loaded to the max weight possible at the tyre's rated maximum pressure so in most cases the width of the tyre [not the tread] we see in practice is a bit less than the rated dimension.

Now, considering the rear photo of the maroon coloured car, you can see that the walls of the rubber look nigh on parallel to the rim. This suggests that indeed you may well have the 9/10 size combo. If so, take the 255 rear rubber off the rear rim, fit it to the front rims and mount a 275 or 285 section on the rears and for heavens sake keep the bloody things!

It is a very tempting proposition! I'll probably pull them off this weekend, clean them up, and get some better pics.
