I lived in Melbourne and have a bunch of friends there and they are all going nuts with the Covid lockdown. How you are getting things sourced and done is beyond me with the 5km restriction. Hopefully it will be lifted soon.

The Zinnmetallic is a super color and the desert patina is awesome! Where did you find it and what suburb of Melbourne do you live in? I have been a part owner in a number of ski shops (all closed now) with locations in Downtown Melbourne, Collingswood, Fern Tree Gully, Moorabbin, & Gelong. You live in a fun part of the world!!!

Post lot's of photos of your progress and the best of luck bringing this shark back to life!

Brave? I think delusional is closer to the truth!

We have just bought an old mid century mud brick house in Eltham so we are a bit further out now, but I have a red sauce joint in Carlton and a bar in South Yarra so I am all over the place.

Are you in the states now!? not many GTR’s getting around Aus!

Yes, I'm in the states now... Have not been down under since 2018. Did a driving tour of Victoria and caught up with friends in Bright, Yackandanda, Toorak, Fern Tree Gully, Black Rock etc. Mates from the banking and ski industry...

Golfed ar Royal Melbourne and a bunch of other courses... Saw a little early season snow up at Falls Creek - - - had a great time!

You really live in a choice part of the world, with some of the nicest people on earth!

Enjoy!

I had a much bigger crack in the bottom of my tank fixed by a professional poly welder here in Perth.
Was cheap and it's a common repair for water tanks.

Thanks for the lead, looked into it more and have spoke to another fella that fixes these tanks with that method and has had good results. The polyvance ones are relatively inexpensive (compared to a new tank) and would be handy as hell to have!

Have been spraying penetrating oil into the in in tank pump/sleeve union, twice a day for over a week now, hoping by some miracle I could get the in tank pump out without Disturbing the sleeve and destroying the cracked collar...

Boom! Someone likes me up there.

has sort of occurred to me now that this may not necessarily have made my life easier. As I still May need to remove the insert to get a good seal with the PC11 epoxy.

Another idea potentially could be to have a go at poly welding the crack with the insert in situ.

This is the welder that has been recommended.
https://www.polyvance.com/Airless-Welders-1/5700HT/

They use a stainless steel mesh To reinforce the weld, claiming it adds better strength than original.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Or know what exact plastic the tanks are made from?

I can get an ‘intact’ tank for $400 but who knows how long till the outlet goes on that one and I’m back in the same boat.

Waiting on some parts to finish tank and battery cable, decided to begin addressing some of the rear quarter window rust in the meantime. Stripped the spoiler and took the passenger rear window out, looks a lot better than i thought it would be, couple of tiny spots where it has rusted through, hoping to avoid having to cut a section out.

Sat there staring for about 20mins. Actually loving the rear without the spoiler and have been considering an OB backdate, now is the time to decide. Just can't stomach putting the spoiler back on after seeing what was under there. Have removed the brick sized antenna motor as well to cut some weight, was corroded to hell anyway. I want it to look super clean, antenna delete, side strip delete, and rear spoiler delete maybe? Front spoiler is a can of worms from what i can see, that is staying at this point.

Will get some pics of the rust later tonight, interested in opinions.

I'm working on a spoiler delete for a soon-to-be mine '85 S. I'm trying to figure out what gaskets, trim, and (possible) glass I'm going to need to make this change. Can you post up detailed pics of the area under the spoilers?

spoiler delete will look good. The lines really are quite beautiful. I do happen to like the spoilers, but I go back and forth on it.

Nice! Looks like can use the same glass. Will need OB seals and trim for quarters and hatch. Few locating dowels and brackets to grind down as well on quarters. There’s definitely a bit in it.

hope these pics help

Where trim meets spoiler on hatch

Spoiler is held on by a lot of screws that penetrate in the channel. Felt like around 20. Many of the screws were rusted out. The holes will need to be welded up IMO. There will probably be rust to address anyway

Seal has an inner ring to seal against spoiler. Glass continues underneath to the corner.

Locating dowels for the spoiler tabs. (Big hole is the antenna I’m also deleting)

Cool beans. The holes are about what I expected, and I knew I'd need trim pieces and rubbers. I was getting conflicting reports on the glass itself. I'm sure Roger has the rubber. I need to source the trim. Hopefully the rust won't be too bad when it all comes apart.

Thanks, Killer! Good luck with your build.

Graham, if Jon doesn't want your K-Jet bits, I'll definitely buy them as spares for my '82. I'm in Canberra.

Cheers
