I know y’all will shoot me, but I “massaged the silver bullit door panels to accept them.

Will report back on fitment.
Have a couple amp/Head unit ideas as well.
Appreciate the feedback!

Chuck - what do you mean exactly by "massaged"? I was thinking of buying these too, but I don't want to modify by door panel. I want a drop in option that I can make work with the original grills. Thanks

JT, I have a 79, going to later model door panels. (Separate mid/tweet) so I’ve got to “massage” a little..
You probably do not as you already have the 2 speaker door panels. Use the info on this thread.
Had i known the MB Quart QS100 was an option, I’d probably would have gone with them as it looks like a little easier application.
I used these grills from Retro Manufacturing for the 4" on the doors. They gave me about 3/8" extra depth so I was able to use a pair of Alpine S-S40s. I'm pleased with the look of the grills. The downside of them is there really isn't much holding the grill into the backing plate so they can pop out.
if you want to really improve audio quality, you pretty much have to do extensive soundproofing....both deadening and absorption. There are some products available now that make it pretty easy (standard dynamat is not going to do it....that's going to stop a lot of resonance, but doesn't absorb sound.......plenty of threads here with a lot of experimentation...I ended up using a "floating" layer of very thin lead sheeting and very dense viscoelastic foam under the carpet....I glued a layer of the foam on the inner side of the exterior door panels, and covered the front of the panel with dynamat....that made a HUGE improvement in sound quality for the door speakers. But at the end of the day you pretty much have to go with a subwoofer of some type. I am in the process of building a panel that replaces the rear panel that holds the tools at the back of the hatch so that it holds 6x9's...even those were worlds better than anything that fits in the factory holes, but not as good as the "under seat" self amplified 8 inch sub that I had sitting i the cargo area before. but regardless....focus on sound deadening or you'll never get the benefit of decent speakers.
Snoz,
Could probably graft those grills onto the Rings That Roger at 928s R Us sells.. Probably pop out of current rings and pop into the Roger Rings.
Mark,
Good info! I've "brown Breaded the pass door panel and test fit the door cards, no problems. Figured they would fit as I did it on my GTS when I had it.
I'm going to add sound deadening in certain areas of the actual door card itself next after test fitting the speakers. The rest of the car is already (brown breaded) except for the Driver door which is next.
Will add the mass loaded vinyl to the floorboard and rear deck as well.
