Interesting stuff. I worked for P&G for more than a few years, FWIW, but that was a long while ago.
P&G bought the PUR water filter line a couple years ago. To get the minerals out, one would need a resin filter rather a mechanical filter. Think of it as a mini water softener. The PUR household line uses this, plus a charcoal filter to capture the more fragrant pollutants in your drinking water. There have also been a few of these resin cartridges marketed over the years as hose-cartridge softeners too. Great idea, but expensive.
A real water softener might be better. First, you get to use soft water with your car-wash detergent, and that means you can use a lot less detergent. Easier on the paint, and less detergent to rinse off. Next, you can use a lot more soft rinse water to get all the detergent off. A last benefit is that you can do the whole house, and keep keep your plumbing fixtures and shower a lot cleaner. Makes it an easier sell for the wife.

I've used it several times now and while not perfect, it does do quite a good job. I think the soap, IMO, is the best I've ever used for removing road grime and brake dust. My only problem is that I think it uses too much soap. I usually always go over my car with a glosser or a spray and shine after I'm done washing anyway; so any spots will come out then.
Would I buy the product again....yes. But like a lot of other people, I had to see it first to believe that it actually worked. A guy in my complex used it on his black benz and....it actually worked so that sold me.
