BC ,
I do agree that we have a great place for venders to help us find parts for our aging vehicles.
Problem is, if I were a paying sponsor, I would get fed up with all kinds of other vendors showing up and getting the attention of the 928 crowd for free. It's not fair to them (see the Big-3) and who's to say half of these "new" vendors are trust worthy anyway? This way if they at least buy a membership, John has some type of real info about the person in case they are tying to screw us over.

I also did not say anything about sponsorship, a membership is what, like $17 a year? Whoopie. Add $1 to each lens, since he needs at least 20 to get the order going.

From a business/market share perspective, he should try using the Big3 as a distributor. Granted he would have to lower his ($120) price tag, but it would open up the door to many potential customers. There is a large group of owners who are not on the rennlist web forum, but may have a 928intl or Devek catalogue. Plus it would give his product credibility based on the reputation the Big3; they do not sell less-than-Porsche quality products.

All good points. It depends on the situation though.

As I recall, he was making these kinds of lenses for other cars, like the 944.
And someone contacted him, asking him if he would make lenses for the 928.
He did not have to do it, but people here really wanted those lenses, and had no where to get them.
There was no one else making the lenses. No other sources.

I just think it falls into the same category as the supercharger kits.
People here really wanted them.
But if someone like Andy comes up with a kit, and offers it to the people who wanted it,
and he just got hassled about it, I could see those people just saying "Screw it! I'll just make my own supercharger kit for myself, and forget about these other uptight people on Rennlist..."

Instead of saying, "Thank you for making a kit for all of us!"
Or: "Thank you for making clear lenses for us!"

They hear people saying: "You shouldn't be advertising here unless you are a sponsor!"

So then they say: "FINE! I won't advertise here then!"

And then there goes our clear lenses, or supercharger kits, out the window...

The cool thing about this forum is how OPEN it is, and how anyone can come on and ask questions, give answers, etc... I like the idea that someone can come here, and ask if we want clear lenses. And if we all say yes, he makes them, and in a few weeks, he's back here, saying they are ready for us... That is COOL.

John is not a sponsor.
So should he not post about his turbo "kit" either?
How about Tim Murphy?
No more mention of his kits for sale...
Not even an announcement.
Only sponsors can make an announcement about new products...

Just some sarcasm.
But I really think the main thing about advertising restriction,
is that we do not want spam, or constant posts about products for sale.

How about as a fair compromise, people can "announce" new products,
but not "advertise" on a regular basis, the same products over and over,
without sponsorship?

I double checked my post that started all of this. I said a MEMBERSHIP, big difference. John, Tim, Goridesno, and I think Mark from Fast are all Rennlist MEMBERS. None of us expect every person selling something to be a sponsor. I'm sure Rennlist would welcome the income, but like you said, it's an open forum. I just don't feel right buying anything from a non-paying member. No matter what it is.

Sorry then.

My bad.

Still, I think that outside vendors who make something for the 928 should be able to post an "announcement" about the product, but not fill the board with constant advertisements...

Thanks for the tips about the Big3. I will se what's happening.
I'm glad for all positive feedback i get in my emails.

Due to the new swedish post office regulations i am not able to send any products by C.O.D to USA. Sorry!
The shipping cost to US is about ~ $20-$30:-

I'm accepting payment via paypal, or better payment in advance.
I hope that's fine for everyone. (?)

And - I have now payed the memership fee.

Regards
Joakim =)

You're right this is an open fourm, but like everything else there are written and unwritten rules.

When someone starts selling their used parts at half the price of the sponsors I can't help but to wonder how burned the sponsors must be. People with no overhead are basiclly having a going out of business sale in front of their primary customers, but I'm right there buying those deeply discounted goodies.

Is it unreasonable for non-memebers to advertise when their ride is listed on ebay?

Again, it is an open fourm, but a good unwritten rule would be if you want to advertise you should be at least a member.

Although it maybe a good written rule.....

Maybe I'm just some kind of hippie at heart or something.

I just love the idea of people just gathering on the internet, and sharing their ideas, knowledge, products, etc...

But I also despise SPAM, so I understand the concern about people posting all kinds of lame advertising. But when it is 928-specific products, and cool ones at that, or a really nice car for sale, I am all for them sharing it with us, member or not...
