Default How many 928s left worldwide?

How many left UK shows 665 928s left of all types. Anyone have an estimate for how many left worldwide?

I think the number of not registered submarines is 3:1. In Germany are 1100 928 registered.

I have heard the estimate that about half are still “left”, which puts the number around 30K. By “left” though, does that mean running and driving, or just all the ones that haven’t met the crusher or burned to the ground? I actually don’t know. There has to be thousands sitting in garages, storage facilities, fields etc that don’t run but can still be restored.

Tough question to answer.
For example, my parents live in a tiny little island in the southern Caribbean and there are two (2) 928 cars that have sat in garages for years and years. One is immobile due to trans issues, not sure what the issues are with the other one. But thinking globally we might be surprised home many of these cars are still around and still 100% intact.

Define "left".

Do you mean running, driving and on the road (passing whatever inspections are required)?

Running and driving, but not roadworthy?

Parked and not running, but fixable with a reasonable amount of effort?

Sitting and rotting, whether in a back yard or garage or whatever, but still mostly intact (not missing any major components, or a significant amount of minor ones)?

Empty (or mostly stripped out) shell?

43 years since the first one, 25 since the last.

Purely a guess, with no facts or figures to back it up -

1/4 are 'gone'. Dismantled, shell crushed. Never going to see them again.

1/4 are 'road ready'. They may or may not have been driven in some time, but could be with minimal effort.

The other half are in the middle. Some are sitting in junkyards, stripped shells that will be crushed when the price of steel goes back up.
Some are in someone's garage, being brought back to life.
The rest are somewhere in between.

Again, purely a guess. My $0.02, but probably not worth that much.

You can probably double the number on this forum as a guide for how many survive.

In Saudi Arabia, I know there were 207 imported officially, but have seen none of those. I know 2 running with a friend of mine (bought new and still in collector condition). There is mine (US Spec). The rest... MIA

Correction, there is also a GTS with 34k KM for sale and I recall seeing one GTS (purple) on the side of a street once with engine parts in the trunk. The body was in excellent shape.

One would hope at least most people know how special this car is and because of that don’t crush them but rather push them off to the side with dreams of granger to bring them back to life. But that’s just me I’m probably way off. Hehe
