Default Headlight lens MIA

Upon returning home yesterday I noticed that my headlight lens had decided not stick around. No damage, just missing. No reason why.
Anyone seen this before?

The glue dries up...mine fell off on the 79 when I put them up under their own power for the first time. Hit the concrete and shattered....

I'm not sure the glue dries up. I suspect it's just caused by vibration gradually working it loose. Might be a good idea to pop the whole assembly in the oven at about 210F every 10 years or so. That seems to be enough to soften the glue and re-seal them when they cool down.

I think Roger sells replacement lens's. I have a few H4's sitting around somewhere. I can always rob the lens out of one of them. This lens did not have the little bump on the top edge.

^^ Roger does sell plastic replacement lenses. Cannot remember how much they were but they are nowhere near as much as a new headlight.

There's a thread nearby that includes some Rob Edwards description on how he replaced a fog light lens with one of Roger's replacements. That same procedure discusses the adhesive and process you'll use regardless of whether you replace with plastic or a spare glass lens you have. Good idea to do both, at least the R&R with new adhesive. There's a reasonable chance the both assemblies have enjoyed the same lifestyle.

I have rebuilt a few in the past and I still have some spare parts. I used a heat gun and 3m adhesive and took my time.
I was just surprised to see that it was suddenly gone. I have 3m film on the face for both, trying to fend off incoming projectiles.

The adhesive of choice is Morimoto RetroRubber Resealing glue. Roger's polycarbonate H4 lens is around $220 - 250 if I recall correctly. Good to have a wife who allows headlights in the oven...

Very funny. The California HP did not find this funny either the other day.
