Default Radio for 1978 Swiss/Germany delivery car?

What radio model would have been factory optioned on a 1978 model for either the Swiss or German market?

any photos?

are there more modern ones now that have the same look suitable for the US?

thanks

Thank you.

So a Frankfurt would have been put in by the owner? Especially as it doesn’t have a Porsche branding on it?

Were radios strictly an option? I’m looking at the order sheet and I see an option for automatic antenna but not sure for a radio. I don’t read German!

Thank you for your help.

I found a key to the option codes, so no radio mentioned just the automatic antenna, along with things like air and tinted windows, etc. oak green and pascha which I knew!

A Frankfurt was put in, so I’ll probably seek out the correct plate. And a CR radio if possible.

Any sources? Looking for both the radio blank plate as well as the correct plate to install a Porsche branded CR radio when I find one. Unless there is an appropriate looking Bluetooth enabled blaupunkt radio instead.

Any other thoughts?

Not sure what the form factor of the Frankfurt was but before you go looking for a type CR make sure that no one massacred the recessed 'ears' through which the type CR volume and tuning ***** mount. If they're not there, you will not be able to mount the CR and you'll need a replacement center console. (At some point someone is going to have to scan and re-create a 78-79 center console midsection that can be glued in to repair the radio mounts....)

That is an important point about the ears. I didn’t realize there was something behind the radio but of course it makes sense. Is there an installation picture that shows that?

any source for plates? Or blanks?

The early blockoff plate looks like this:

The installation set for the '78 CR radios is 928 645 121 00 (supercedes to -01), which used to be readily available from Porsche for cheap (~$25) but supply dried up a few years ago, there was a bit of a 'run' on them. I think 928sRUs may still have some?

Here's a 78-79 console with the mounting ears, even this one was modified at some point for a radio with slightly wider post spacing.

And here's a sad console, post earectomy:

I’m learning so much! By supersedes it means the 01 part is identical?

if anyone has an extra radio blank plate I’d like to buy it !

The radio install kit that Rob mentioned has 2-post adapters for if the center console was factory provisioned for DIN or otherwise 'cut up'. Those darn Germans were always thinking ahead!

Where would I look for the early radio block plate, original?

I purchased a nice working German market Blaupunkt CR for the 928 which is year correct for this 1978. Will replace the Frankfurt that is in there, even though that was put in by the original owner (I bought it from the original owner).

I’m going to look for a adapter to connect to the 6 pin (7 pin?) input to have a 3.5 mm plug or bluetooth connectivity for my iPhone. Any suggestions?

thanks everyone for the help.

Give Massoud at Creative Car Audio in Brea, CA a call at (714) 744-4438. He's the king of Blaupunkt/Becker preamp inputs.

@ Macduc
If I was you I would choose an original Blaupunkt Bremen SQR 49 from 1989:

Real good sound quality with separate bass and treble adjusting and ... a real piece of the 80s coming with an advanced design of that decade.
