Default Front Lower Control Arm Bushings

Hi all,

Since I am planning to have the dealer replace my engine mounts I thought I tackle the front lower arm bushings that are in dire straights on my 87. I saw some replacement ones on Rose Passion (no affiliation) and looking at the pics they looked like rubber. I did order a set. Any thoughts?

Been getting most of my stuff from rose passion recently, as prices are ok and shipping is much less than most to Ireland, so they are fine to deal with. Cant speak on those the lower arm bushing as never done on the 928, but from other cars i have done it on, its one area i would avoid buying the bushing and go with the full arm, as it can be more hassle than is worth.

also no affiliation but have a look at these, original arms have to be exchanged, but not going to cost much more.

928 International carries the same OEM rebuilt control arms, tough its a shipping nightmare with the cores to be sent back as well and the weight. I thought on site rebuild might be an option as on more than one occasion my independent techs as well as dealer have pointed out that the rubber is quite toast and tearing, specially on the front.

My thought was why not try...

Probably one of the most neglected parts of the 928 suspension, the lower control arm bushing are incredibly important. The lower front control arm bushings are a MAJOR part of the front spring rate of the vehicle. Any deterioration, or any change in material does and will result in drastic changes in the handling of the vehicle.

Therefore any change of material type or hardness will require some careful resetting of the front springs to compensate for the change in the stiffness of the bushings. This will require some serious development time.

Any competent suspension engineer will also tell you the the stock rubber bushings are "progressive". The farther they "twist, the higher the spring rate goes. This becomes a part of the problem with changing the bushing to a different material or to a bushing that freely pivots....the progressive spring rate of the bushing changes, too.

I can tell you this much:
1. The rebuilt arms which Mark Anderson sells have rubber compliance extremely close to the originals.
2. I install enough of these arms that Mary keeps multiple sets, in inventory, for when Mark runs out.
3. Compare the cost of Mark's rebuilt parts compared to the originals, from Porsche. I know that shipping costs have gotten crazy, these days, but I'm pretty sure I could purchase a plane ticket and have them set on a seat, inside the plane, for the price difference of just one arm.
