If they are crap, nothing lost. It says they are for a MK4, but they look like the MK3 versions. I haven't gotten them yet so I don't know if they will work.

Reason: additional details
I don't have the pigtails, I just plan on trimming the back side to expose the connector and soldering wires on the existing tabs, then terminating those with quick disconnects. Pot it up with some J-B Weld and it should be OK. I'll post it up when I get the lamps in.
I bought the Chinese lights and pig tails from Roger. They worked fair to OK but I ended up pulling them out and replacing them with OEM lights.
Now I have a bag full of them
Regarding dying them, I'm using some RIT DyeMore black dye in my car.
The "DyeMore" part is the line intended for synthetics, and appears to work well on automotive plastics, based on reports from a couple sources I've come across.
Their regular line of dyes is not intended for synthetic materials, and will barely discolor the plastic.

Interesting - I consider the stock interior lights to be one of the very low points of 928 equipment. The VW lights are functionally better all round and to me better aesthetically too. was your decision driven by originality concerns or issues with the VW units?
It is also common on older cars for the headliner material to pull away from the interior light openings - the VW units overlap the hole sufficiently to cover this up in most cases - worked for me.
I had issues with the VW light in the back hatch...stuck in too far and was causing short....bought a OEM light from Roger for the back and no more issues.
