VW Interior Light FS?

For the light at the bottom of the hatch there is a lot less clearance depth wise and many have found that they don't have the space to accommodate the pigtail housing of the light as it takes up too much space and rubs against the body. To combat this they cut off the part where the pigtail normally connects and then connect the wires directly without the plastic plug. The downside of this is that it opens up the possibility of wires shorting against each other or the body of the hatch.

On my car ('94 GTS) there was nowhere near enough room in the rear hatch light cavity for the VW fixture with the protruding socket even without the pigtail attached. With the socket part sawn off it does fit - so I soldered wires directly to the shortened pins folded them around so the wires exit to the back and 'potted' the whole area in JB Weld. No way that can short against anything. The key is to encapsulate it all again solidly. They have been installed like this for many years.
Some mention of it and some pics in this thread I later redid the whole thing with Black VW lights
