I think so too but out of curiosity I bought one from from PartsGeek, and was delivered within a few days. Looks like a good fit and appears to be of good quality but reluctant and having second thoughts about installing
Like everything in life, there's an uncertainty and some rationalization for "experimenting". How limited is the lifetime warranty? Does it include consequential damages, including installation costs, towing, lodging and rental car? Block damage? Probably not. Even the highly-rated parts come with a "replace if you return it to us within whatever we decide the lifetime is" warranty. You take our chances. Our vendors see the failure stats, so I rely on them to let me know what works best. You are under no obligation to follow their guidance of course.
In my old age and dwindling health, it takes me a couple lazy days to do a whole TB/WP project will all the trimmings. Am I willing to risk getting stranded, damaging the engine, plus the rework time for pump savings? There are a couple cheap knock-off pumps from otherwise-mainstream suppliers but they tend to have block-eating metal impellers on them. Even if I could absorb the rework effort, I'm not sure I want to risk the block.
You might have paid too much, same pump is on eBay for $55, '78-87 (early style). Is the pump you are replacing an early style, with the shoulder-bolt and no bracket?
Please post a picture of the backside, it would be interesting to see what sort of impeller it has. And the VIN# of the car would be helpful.

Steel, no doubt.
None of that cheap plastic crap, here.
Yes, I also saw I saw another one on A1 Parts also for $55 but if it's too risky to install I may have wasted money on it regardless. I'm not sure if I'm replacing an early style, with the shoulder-bolt and no bracket or not.
Attached are pics of the back (impeller) side and my ViN is: WP0JB0929HS861261
Also attaching photos of front and back of old water pump....excuse dirt but a complete bath and restoration for car is in stage 1.

Well, the good thing about that DIY brand pump is that the impeller blades look nice and sharp and it appears that the impeller is “factory pre-migrated.”
