I recently purchased a 1981 928 and did not notice at the time that there was no driver's side shelf under the pod. I was surfing Ebay auctions when I picked up on it. My 928's exterior / interior are very clean and the 928 was very well maintained by the po so it seems odd that it would have been taken out. I also cannot see any tell tale signs of removal of shelf or mounting holes. Did some 928s not come equipped with it?

My 82 and 84 both had the shelf on the driver's side. Both shelves are in the storage closet. My boyfriend's feet are large-ish, and he had a hard time getting the driver's seat without kicking the self. And, half the time I put stuff there, it would fly out onto my legs at inopportune moments.

85 was missing it, but the mounting tabs were there. My 87 has it.

My '88 had one, but the '93 doesn't. I miss the shelf for things like garage door openers and sunglasses.

I have both the driver's and passenger's side listed on ebay now, if anyone is interested. They're dark brown but could very easily be dyed black. Leather is in perfect condition.
