Here's a picture of the left front wheel. This picture was taken when the paint had been on for two years, and was right after a wash. I've changed tires since.

Here's it taped up. Cardboard in the background that was reused for each wheel, and a plastic paint drop cloth from home depot. Thanks Ed M

I was able to get brush-on caliper paint from Tweeks, although it looks like the spray-on stuff looks good, too!

If you are going to the hassle of painting the calipers (and yes they do look nice Red) then for those 87 upwards owners out there you should take the calipers off, take out the stainless slider plates and remove all the corrosion underneath them and paint there.

You will prbably find that remving the slider plates is difficult. The easy solution is to split the caliper - not for the faint of heart - I only had to drill out one bolt head, and the replacements were cheap.

You have to do the hubs if your going to go through all that trouble! I've seen a few cars (not just Porsches) w/ painted calipers and rusty hubs. It doesn't have to be painted w/ a color, just sand them to bare metal, hit em w/ some burgundy scotch brite and use clear engine paint if you don't want any color. It looks sooo much better.

Tresa has a good point. I painted not only the calipers, but the dust shield, and the whole disc. I laid the disc on the ground [I painted the brakes when I replaced the pads and disc at the same time; the paint went on to a disc that had never hit the road] and sprayed paint down the cooling channels. I used cheap hi-temp engine paint, and to this day there is little discoloration. ED's results are awesome! I love the PORSCHE script, and I'd do that to my car...but they only make the script in white.

Thanks Heinrich.

Ed, yours came out great. With the Porsche stickers, they really look clean and factory. Great job.

All of you guys did beautiful paintwork on your calipers, but you left the job unfinished. If only you had taken the initiative to paint your rotors, then your rides would look freakin' sweet!

These pictures are of a VW Corrado and came from a VW message board.
