1968, A Space Odyssey, and then a modern remake in the early 2000's. HAL was an evil computer, but in Lost In Space the robot was like a benign companion pet.

The name HAL is rumored to be a deliberate correlation to the corporate name IBM.

HAL wasn't evil, he was just given programming that forced him to make decisions that weren't very nice to Dave.
The evil was the people who programmed HAL to do whatever it took to figure out what the monolith was, without telling Dave or Frank.

This was covered in 2010, which was a good book and a halfway decent movie (Roy Scheider was in it).

And Robby the Robot from Lost in Space was a helpful 'assistant' (slave) who was used for many purposes, but the main one being similar to Lassie, warning stupidly of danger that should have been blindingly obvious to the kid.

Why the Robinsons never murdered (legally executed) Dr. Smith is beyond me!
We have a winner.....

Robbie the robot was very similar, but used in “Forbidden Planet”, a sci-fi movie from the 1950’s. Don’t think the robot in “Lost in Space” had a name.

Indeed. His official name was Gunter.
