It appears that it is time to replace the fuel pump (very noisy). It also appears that there is a wide variety to chose from. Any recommendations on one (or ones not to)?
'89 is the first year Porsche put the in-tank pump back into the vehicles.
When the in-tank pump goes bad, the main fuel pump will get very noisy.
If you want to not replace the in-tank pump (very pricey), order a strainer from an '87-'88, the different feed hose from the strainer to the pump, and a main pump for an '87-'88, not an '89.
If your intank pump is still running, most likely the hose that connects the metal strainer/filter pump assembly has failed. Greg has a hose kit to replace the hose for good. Roger has the it in stock. If the intank pump is dead, follow Greg's advice.
