Default CE panel question...

Pulled my CE panel to do a refurb. I followed an older post by, I believe Landseer and cleaned it with a good soaking in CLR, then baking soda and water, then a good soaking with straight water and then a good drying. It really came out nice! I do have a few wires that need replacing and just wondering if the ends attached to the 8 pin sockets ( male) pull out the front of the panel or need to be pushed inside to be removed? The other ends of those wires clip onto the fuse holders and pop right off. Anyone had to do this?

Wow.

..i will say that in just pulling fuses, relays and the odd connection down there , i can say there are plenty of sources for gremlins.

i have another can of deoxit on the way that im going to drench that panel in.

Yesterday I took every pin and connctor in the cabin and cleaned them....window motor connections...door lights....HVAC connections...pods switches...etc

Example of a fuse... Saw some relays in the same state...

also found two split wires in the door harness where it flexes as it opens and closes..

The relay sockets are an absolute pain to deal with if you don't have depinning tools. You have to pull out the pins from the back carefully after splitting the relay socket in half.

If you don't you'll have to replace the socket. Been there, not fun. But it's only $10 to replace and they used the same socket all the way up to 2011 IIRC.

Yea, I,ve been chasing my tail around for a while trying to figure out this car and its intermittent starting issues. I,ve posted many threads and the common reply among all of them was that the CE panel may be an issue,so it was time to dig into that mess. When I pulled it the other day not only did it need a serious cleaning and a few wires replaced, at least 3 of the wire looms had broken, burned through or frayed and chewed through wires! Time for some serious wire repair for sure. Many treads had mentioned not getting into that nest of wiring on the back of the panel unless absolutely necessary and I can see why. What I ended up doing last night was, since the male " blades" seemed very reluctant to come out, I just used very small snippers and cut the wires at the crimp, used a small sharp pointed nail to open up the crimps and clean out the old wire. Then soldered in new wire. It probably will last longer than the original setup. The looms will take a little time to repair, but not a horrible job.

Seth has a tool that he uses for these jobs, maybe he'll chime in with what it is. I saw it on the Facebook page awhile back.

Interesting.... a tool would probably make it an easier task. Those male blades are in there pretty tight and were probably never meant to come back out. I do have the panel all back together and ready to install, just have to get a little warm weather so I can spend time repairing the bad wires under the dash.

Seth, just read your thread. Great info! I can see what you were talking about as far as the newer terminals compared to the older ones. Last year I replaced all of the Bosch connectors under the hood as most were broken or dried out and falling apart. I did solder and heat shrink every splice and I,m sure they will last for years, but if I had had the time,I may have given your process a try. I,m wondering if the male flat blades on the 8 pin connectors have the same type locking finger on them? It wasnt a huge issue just soldering in a new wire without removing the blades, but it would have been a little easier.
