What is holding that panel to the hatch (how many screws/clips)? Do I have to remove some of the headliner forward of the hatch opening?

Please read these instructions a few times to get a feel for whats being described.
What year car are we working on?
NOTE the rest of this will be trial and error.
Remove the bolts that hold the lower and upper hatch latches.
loosen the side hatch rubber guides and push them down so the hatch is free to move.
Now inside the car, you should see 2 plastic inserts at the rear edge of the roof liner,
if you remove them you will see the hatch pivot bolts, loosen them.
I suggest to get 2 pieces of hard plastic ( this is where the trial and error is)-
(NOTE if you have another 928 close by measure the gap of the roof to hatch edge first.)
-so you can make alignment wedges the correct thickness.
Now insert it into each side of the hatch/ roof gap, make this gap slightly wider than the side of the hatch gap.
NOW have a helper push the hatch upwards towards the front of the car with the hatch closed.
snug the pivot bolts down,
and carefully open the hatch making sure its not going to bind at the corners.
NOTE your helper should also be cognizant of the side to side alignment you may need to gently pry the top from one side to the other to center it.

Thanks Stan. This will be very useful as my left lower end is sitting a little higher than the right on my 87 and not the 91 even though the car has never had any damage!
