Default 1987 928 S4 Auto Air box RHD

Hi
Im new to the forum, I need some help Im currently doing some light resto work on a 928 1987 S4.

There are 3 issues I heed help with.

1: where does the white vacuum hose in the picture go?

2.Where do the brackets go that hold the base for the airbox?

3.The gear display on the instrument panel and the reverse lights don't work?

Any help would be great, Michael

'Cuz this is the best place in the whole wide world to ask a question about a 928. This is the '928 specific' forum. Questions about lesser cars get removed.

Not sure off the top of my head about your questions, but there are guys on here who can answer those in their sleep.

Reverse lights are set up differently for autos & manuals. What transmission do you have?

I thought the bottom of the airbox had two bolts that go through to the top of the motor. Could be wrong, mine is a 16v motor, not the S4.

I would suggest reading the 'New Visitor' sticky thread at the top of the forum.

Two things that will be useful are:

The "PET" parts catalog. Free download from Porsche. It has exploded view drawings of everything.

The Work Shop Manual (WSM). There's a link to a free download. It's not perfect, but mostly complete.

There's a lot more in there that makes it worth the time.

Welcome.

Welcome!

1) it looks like it either runs to the flappy valve under the intake or the fuel evap valve. Need a more pictures.

2) I think those brackets mount on the block. My 87 doesn't have them so it sort of just floats.

3) your issue is Fuse 24 with the lights. Replace the fuse with a 7.5 amp on the panel. Check and let us know.

Good luck and great to have a new member.

1) Looks like the flappy solenoid valve (FSV) vacuum source line - it goes to the 4 way vacuum fitting attached to the brake booster check valve via a smaller check valve.
2) The airbox brackets mount to the heater hose port and block-off plate on the cylinder head. On my '87, these brackets also mount the fuel pressure regulator and damper.

As others have suggested the white line is for the flappy valve its in front of the left cylinder head under the front damper.

Air cleaner support brackets go under the last bolt on the intake manifold ,
the wider opening fits around the bolt head that holds the HCV port and aft block off plate down, thus the brackets cam move slightly.

Check the fuses use a multi meter to test them for continuity without removing them.

look under the pod make sure the two wire plug is attached to the steering lock cylinder shaft.
Look in the hatch well for the multi connector , take it apart and put deoxit 100 on all of the pins, and clean the grounds
use Deoxit on everything you touch

For the gear selector and reverse light problem, try it with the lights switched on. If they both now work then you have a wire disconnected under the instrument pod, can't remember which one but check this and I can find the old thread if it's the problem you have.
