Default Hose identification please

Recent new owner here. Going through the front wheel well areas and adjacent components this week on my '89 S4. Luckily, other than the typical cracked wheel liners and disintegrating foam, not any major issues. However, as I cleaned up everything I noticed this T-connection hose had snapped. What is it and can it be patched/ sealed, or should it be replaced? I haven't noticed any problems from the inside and with regular driving.

Unrelated, what are the current thoughts on venting the battery on these cars (new interstate plus megatron)?
Thanks.

Should look more like this: You missing a bunch of parts including the 'Y' not pictured here.

Ignore the boxed area. You are missing the parts in the middle of the diagram.

Thanks. Actually, I looked through more of my pics and realized it's the charcoal canister line Y connector. All the pieces are there, and working fine except I need to replace the Y.
If you were to replace the canister, it seems like the original (mine) was a 2 port design and the newer replacement PET is a 3 port since 1993. See this thread for details on how to change it out. ( https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...r-install.html)
So I will just replace the Y connecting nos 5, 6, and 7. Here is a detailed pic I found that exactly matches my setup.in case others come across this.

Standard failure item- usually causes the cabin to have a smell of petrol.

Change the Y, and support the hoses well so the new one doesn't get broken. See attachment for my early-ownership experience with that Y. The carbon canisters don't wear out, so a good used one from 928 International will do you just fine.

The Group 48/H6 battery that fits our '89 cars has a vent port for vapors. I've seen different configurations from different manufacturers, but they all have at least one. I used some 1/4" plastic drip irrigation tubing from that port, with either the rubber manifold supplied by the mfr, or a short piece of rubber vacuum hose to connect the tube to the battery. The tubing runs out through the gaiter where the positive cable exits, then down the front of the battery box to just below the bottom of the box. It's between the heat shield and the battery box itself so it doesn't get cooked by the exhaust. That hose eliminates the corrosion at the terminals, hold-down bracket and fastener. the hinge on the lid, and the steel box itself. It all looks brand new in there over thirty years later. For those playing along at home: Do This! It's really cheap and really easy, with very tangible benefits.

Like Fred said, I'm surprised you don't smell gas fumes with that line broken!

+1 on battery vent hose (I've already followed the Good Doctor's advice, though I happened to route mine from an existing hole at the rear of the box, and attach to an existing vertical tube and the center rear of the car -- I got it as low and far away from everything else as possible without being visible from behind the car), and also suggest you consider the metal Y tube available from The Rog at 928sRUs.
