I think so
Same model used for the 1987/1988 and maybe 1989 MY.

Ok.

The one he posted from eBay came in my ‘87, which was built in late ‘86. Guess it was the 1st year to get them...

The case many times is that these compressors gets ‘lost’ or ‘misplaced’, then replaced by another owner. Very often they are replaced by one from the wrong model year.

It may be a changeover year, indeed.
It seems that early 1989 MY have the orange ones, and later with the black.
Do owners of 1989 MY agree?

Im sitting on different info. The early ones had the white/black 911 compressor. Then the orange ones. Then 89-92 the black one you can open. Then the small black one.

Which is the one with the flashlight?

US or Euro 928's?
I think that the models of spare compressors were different between the two versions.

Indeed! There are numerous Rennlist 928 threads regarding tire compressors, but alas no orange. To find the orange one you need to go over to the 911 forums.

Not sure what all the drama is about.

The orange one is even in the 928 catalogue for several model years of the 928. :-)

No drama. Just like the original stuff to be in the car.
