Default wheels/tires 17"

as i want to use 4 identical wheels on my 928 regularity car , i wonder what is the widest wheel/tire that can be used in front .
I can only carry 1 "real" spare wheel , and it must be useful for front and rear.
Let's assume we can have build them to any ET ( offset ) .
No importance , if we have to use the spare on the rear , ET will be to high , but no problem as long as the wheel fits .I even can use a spacer if i want ...

thanks for ideas !

I have 8" wide CS wheels with 245/45-16 tires in the front and 9" with same tire in the back. This on a standard body S4. ET60 on both.

I guess you could use 8" wide rims with ET60 on all four corners with 245-255 wide tires. Then you could use some small spacer in the rear if needed.

thanks Mattias, i forgot to mention my car is a S1 '82.
Don't know if a S4 can take larger wheels/tires compared to the former S1/S2

On my previous owned 89 s4 had OEM cupII's 17x8 ET70 with 255 40 17 front and 17x9 ET55 with 255 40 17 rear, was great combo.
I am going to do the same on my new project 88s4.

A 265x35x18 ET68 works up front and will also fit in the rear no problem.

If your intent is a rally car then you need to be clear about what type of tyre pattern you intend to run on and available sizes. I do not know for a fact but I suspect that rally tyres may not be available in the low profile/sizes we "normal users" run with.

Also, with front tyres that wide you tend to find there is rub on the sway bar at full lock- I sorted that one by fitting an additional rack spacer both sides but if you intend going sideways that may not suit.

thanks guys for info !
i found 4 wheels 9" x 17 , ET 70 and ET 47 .
I will mount them with 245/40 , tires i have from my ex BMW rally car , so i can test fit them.
I have spacers of 21 mm , so a front one can be used in the rear.

just as a note Pirelli are making the correct 16" tyres again https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/pir...turato-p7.html

they have been tested and homologated by Porsche
