Hi all, (82S ROW) I am having issues with my headlights where they will turn on by themselves, and then not turn off. Articulation is working fine.
i have pulled the relay and note than one of the pins appears to be loose, unsoldered and a little burnt.
However I can't work out if this mean to be connected to somewhere if I were to apply solder.
It may be an internal circuit that I can't see.

Is this my issue?
Can I rectify this by applying solder to pin?

No it cant be fixed..but a used headlight switch, which will likely last forever, is cheaper than a new headlight relay..something I wouldnt buy used myself.
Another relay number ! Mine has a -00 suffix, and works. Its pins are different from a -02. Friend with an 88 S4 uses a -01 , which has a bigger can and even more pins. Other numbers seen/heard of are -04, and -64. If you can detect open circuit from the pin to the small solder point visible near it, try soldering it and quickly check operation, being ready to cut the power quickly. Does the diagram on the outside seem to show a connection from the dodgy pin?

I'm inclined to say that should be a soldered joint, but don't have a relay in front of me to confirm with. What component is on the other side of the board at that location.
The pin in question connects to the open position terminal of the applicable relay.
Hence I suspect that this is normal. When the relay is energised the contact pulls away from this pin and the switch is closed.
The relay housing does not have a diagram (purchased through Roger).
Following this post, I re-inserted the relay and noted that the offending relay wash pulling closed.
I forced it open, and everything seems to have returned to normal.
I have left the panel board off and relay housing off to see if the problem re-occurs, and if so it should be simple job of just forcing the relay to open.
This has caused several flat batteries so far at random times,
If the problem persists, I will look at replacing the headlight switch.
If what you’re saying is that the headlights will randomly go on in the down position, but the motor cycles correctly (up and stop when switch is on, down and stop when off) the problem sounds more like the relay than the switch.
The switch is pretty simple, but the relay is actually three relays, one for the motor, one for high/low and one for headlights on. The headlights on relay is controlled by electronics and feedback from the motor assembly.
Try a new relay, but remember that the row cars use a different relay than the US.
If you have a relative new correct relay that has failed, I’d be suspicious of corrosion on the panel connectors.
