Question Link to Aluminum bodied 928 image ?

Does anyone have a link or a copy of that Black & White image (and description) showing 2 guys lifting an entire 928 body shell ?

I tried several searches, but could not find it. Thank you very much !

Here's the pic from that thread - That forum does not archive old posts, so in a few days that link would be dead:

I think its Hood, Front fenders, doors, and roof? I know the rear hatch and rear fenders are steel.

That looks alot like my S4 as it sits in my garage!

only the hood , fenders and doors are aluminum that "saved" a whopping 77 lbs and made fenders cost $1,747 each , doors $2,880 each and hood about $2,500 . The rest of the body is steel welded together as a unibody with no seperate frame . Most of the suspension is aluminum as well . Only things which can be bolted to the steel body/ chassis can be made of aluminum .

Yes John that special chassis saved another 234 lbs over a normal 928 and I can only guess at what that might have cost !!!! it had to be all specially hand welded .

Jim,

Maybe the next lot of "old" parts you guys buy from Porsche might include it

Sure would be nice to know were that is. May the Factory Porsche guy at TT this Saturday might know. Worth asking.

The article mentions normal road use lifespan
of only 180,000 miles with that AL bodyshell.
Is that how far Porsche expects their cars to be driven before
dentist/lawyer buys his wife another. :-)

Ernest (NYC)
Since I'm not racing, I'd take the heavier duty steel bodyshell.
